Deciem The Ordinary “Buffet”: Review

I’ve been going through Deciem’s The Ordinary line slowly. It’s a hugely affordable skincare line with simple ideas behind it. This is from their website about why they created The Ordinaries: The Ordinary is an evolving collection of treatments offering familiar, effective clinical technologies positioned to raise pricing and communication integrity in skincare. The brand was created to celebrate integrity in its most humble and true form. Its offering is pioneering, not in the familiar technologies it uses, but in its honesty and integrity. The Ordinary is born to disallow commodity to be disguised as ingenuity. The Ordinary is “Clinical formulations with integrity”.

The “Buffet” serum is a multi-peptide anti-aging serum. It comes in a frosted glass dropper style bottle and 30 ml retails for $14.80. It doesn’t have any scent I can discern. It’s a slippery thicker gel liquid style serum. No irritation or adverse effects, it’s good for any skin type. Details below per Deciem:

This formula combines a comprehensive array of studied technologies to target multiple signs of ageing at once. The technologies are Matrixyl 3,000 peptide complex (with palmitoyl-pentapeptide 35), Matrixyl Synthe’6 peptide complex (with palmitoyl tripeptide-38), Syn-Ake peptide complex (with dipeptide diaminobutyroyl benzylamide diacetate), Relistase peptide complex (with acetylarginyltryptophyl diphenylglycine), Argirelox peptide complex (with acetyl hexapeptide-8, pentapeptide-18), Probiotic complex (with lactococcus lactis lysate), in a base of 11 skin-friendly amino acids and multiple hyaluronic acid complexes. The total concentration of these technologies in the formula by weight is 25.1%.

Note: The name of this formula was inspired by some brands referring to their expensive products offering combinations of these technologies as a “buffet”, distastefully comparing such products to buffets that offer various kinds of food in one sitting.

Matrixyl 3,000 peptide complex stimulates collagen production and skin repair. Matrixyl Synthe’6 peptide complex works at the cellular level for wound repair and collagen stimulation. Syn-Ake peptide complex is a Botox ‘replacement’ for wrinkle reduction. Relistase peptide complex inhibits elastase activity and boosts collagen it’s for anti-sagging and increases firmness. Argirelox peptide complex works on reducing expression wrinkles, those pesky ones around the mouth and forehead.

The product is hydrating, non greasy and cheap. I found it had some results. It won’t replace Botox, but there’s nothing that can go wrong from you trying it. Many companies charge you a ton more for only one of the above ingredients. The “Buffet” is a powerhouse of anti-wrinkle and skin firming peptides.

Stay tuned for more reviews as I bought most of The Ordinary line. For the price it was worth trying it all. It’s cheaper than most drugstore brands, yet simple and with no fussy extra unnecessary ingredients.
