Lets start with the gorgeous heavyweight glass packaging. This has a dropper style dispenser and while not my favorite, it does the job. I’m quite clumsy so I knock things over. I can see myself spilling this trying to put the dropper back in the bottle. I adore the minimalist style of Herbivore’s packaging. Prism has a very fluid texture. It’s not like water but it’s a very thin serum. It’s not even gel serum thick. This allows it to sink into the skin beautifully and quickly. It’s lightly hydrating, has a straw like color and a very faint fruit scent. This has a really nice texture and it’s easy to layer. It plays well with everything. If Prism came with a pump it would be perfect.

Prism is a hydrating & exfoliating water based serum. It’s oil free. Prism has a base of aloe, rose flower water, vegan sodium hyaluronate & glycerin. This is the hydrating and soothing base. It will help add moisture in addition to just being an exfoliating serum. Prism contains willow bark extract which is a natural form of beta hydroxy acid (BHA). BHA is what unglues your pores and cleans them out. This helps keep break outs at bay and ultimately leaves your skin clear. Herbivore also threw in kakadu plum which has a very high natural vitamin C content. This will help lighten spots, even skin tone and build collagen.

Prism has a 5% natural fruit acid blend aka your alpha hydroxy acids (AHA). AHA help exfoliate the top layer of the skin plus stimulate cellular renewal and increase turnover. This helps improve skins texture and tone. Sugar cane is a natural form of glycolic acid (gold standard acid for exfoliation). Sugar Maple has tartaric acid (antioxidant, mild acid). Bilberry extract is a vegan form of lactic acid (more gentle than glycolic, hydrating). Orange and lemon are your citric acids (weak acid, hydrates, astringent, pH adjuster). Apple is your malic acid (exfoliates, hydrates and helps build collagen).

The best part about Prism is the lower concentration of AHA. At 5% you can use this daily without much irritation or side effects. Sensitive skin people should start with 1-2x a week and move up if it’s going OK. Too many brands put out these strong power house exfoliating serums and toners and make consumers think stronger exfoliation is better (the debate over how much exfoliation is too much is always ongoing). Sometimes slow & steady wins the race. I like a 5-8% concentration of AHA in general for my skin. That’s my sweet spot. I normally avoid disrupting my skins natural moisture barrier when I stick within that range. I used this daily for about four weeks and loved the gentle exfoliation without any irritation. I found it lightly hydrating as well. Don’t forget using AHA increase your chance for sun damage so wear sunscreen daily when using Prism. Overall I quite enjoyed PRISM the serum, essence, acid potion.
