La Mer The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation Beige: Review & Swatches

I’ve been testing this new La Mer The Soft Fluid Foundation for a few months. I usually shy away from long wear formulations as they are usually too dry, matte and full coverage. This one was by La Mer so I thought it was worth trying. Details per La Mer:

Weightless touch for luxurious, long wear. A weightless texture meets luxurious, long wear. NEW Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation SPF 20 seamlessly blends soft color, healing hydration and Miracle Broth. Pores look refined. Imperfections virtually disappear. SPF and antioxidants help protect a newly flawless complexion. New color capsule technology helps color stay true – even in humidity.

The foundation is long wearing, moisturizing and a lighter-weight formula. It’s not the most light weight formula foundation I’ve used, but it’s not heavy by any means. It starts out dewy and wet but dries down and sets to a satin finish. It has a medium coverage. You can make it light coverage and use less, it doesn’t really go to full on coverage. However, you can build on the cheeks and other areas for a full medium coverage that does cover redness. It stays moisturizing and not drying. It doesn’t settle in the pores around my nose either like some formulas do.

It’s not greasy at all, don’t be fooled by the dewy feel at first, let it set for a few minutes. I also stay grease free all day yet feel moisturized, not dried out like some long wear matte formulas. I like that it does last a full day yet without that heavy matte long wear feel. It has SPF of 20 and some La Mer skincare benefits. Bonus. While it’s pricey at $110 for 1 oz, it’s a really nice formula. The bottle is a weighty frosted glass bottle with pump, no complaints there on my end as that’s my favorite style of packaging.

Some devoted La Mer skincare users will be disappointed as this has a fruity floral scent, not the traditional La Mer skincare scent. If they could change this scent to the traditional La Mer scent we all have come to know and love, this would be a perfect formula. I love the hybrid skincare-foundations. This one doesn’t feel heavy nor look like I’m wearing makeup. Those are my favorite kind of foundations.

I tested both Beige and Neutral. Neutral is a neutral toned shade for light-medium skint ones while Beige is a neutral toned shade medium skin tones per La Mer descriptions. Neutral was the perfect shade for me as far as lightness, but it was too pink and cool for me. It worked but it was just a touch too cool/neutral. Beige is a touch too dark for me I’m not really a medium skin tone right now, but the warmth and olive beige tone was best for me. Since it’s sheer enough and when it sets it looks a tad lighter, Beige works perfect for me. I liked using my fingers and brush with this formula. It was streak free with both. You can use a Beauty Blender if you want to, but fingers and a brush were sufficient with this foundation.
