Living Proof Perfect Hair Day In-Shower Styler: Review

I haven’t been a huge Living Proof fan since it came out. I’ve tried a few things here or there. I saw this new Perfect Hair Day In-Shower Styler and it seemed right up my alley. Anything that can save me time in the morning gets tried by me. Details per Sephora:

An innovative formula that is applied in the shower and lightly rinsed, leaving behind only what you need to create beautiful, air-dried styles. In-Shower Styler is formulated so that the styling ingredients are activated when hair is lightly rinsed and excess product is removed, leaving behind only what is needed for beautiful, air-dried styles without the tradeoffs. As hair dries, it contracts, enhancing natural waves. The thickening molecule PBAE creates separation between strands for body, while lightweight conditioners deliver natural shine and softness.

Suggested Usage

-Shampoo and condition hair as usual.
-Apply this product generously to coat hair from roots to ends while still in the shower.
-Lightly rinse, towel dry, scrunch, and air dry.
-Not sure how much to rinse? Make sure you can still feel some product on your hair.

If you have naturally straight hair, try putting your hair in braids or buns and letting it air dry for best results.

The texture is slippery like a conditioner. It feels like putting a light conditioner in your hair. So essentially you shampoo and condition your hair as usual in the shower. Then you apply a generous amount of this in your hair. Let it sit for two minutes or so. Then rinse, but don’t rinse fully or you’ll rinse it all out. You also don’t want to not rinse enough out because then you’re stuck with greasy residue. You have to play with it for the perfect amount for your tastes.

It’s silicone free so that’s nice. It’s decently priced enough at $24 for a 5 oz tube. I’ve used mine quite a few times and it’s still going strong. You honestly can’t tell that this is doing anything until your hair dries. It just feels like your hair is wet and well conditioned until it dries. When your hair dries there is a definite voluminous effect. It gives your hair an overall volume boost.

The overall volume boost and effect is good. However, my hair feels kind of frizzy after using. Almost poofy. This isn’t the best for creating more piecey or textured waves. While it looks OK at first it’s like salt sprays, the effect turns into a poofy mess by the end of the day. I just don’t get a well defined wave nor the hold and lasting effect or other products while using this. I have to use another product on top of this to get the look I want as well as add any definition or hold to my hair.

Because I have to use two products, I might as well just use the product that gives me the definition and hold I want, so I feel I can skip this. I’ve actually had to force myself to remember to use it up. I would not repurchase. You can see in the picture below it gives volume, just not really that piecey or defined wave I prefer.
