MAC Star Trek Trip the Light Fantastic Powder Luna Luster: Review & Swatches

I haven’t been a big MAC fan lately. This recent Star Trek collection had one item stand out to me-Trip the Light Fantastic Powder in Luna Luster. It looked like a Mineralized Skin Finish, but in a different format.

Per MAC: Launch into orbit with this powder that transforms skin upon contact. Available in Luna Luster, Strange New Worlds or Highly Illogical. With swirls of complementing colours and luminous pearls, it provides sheer luminosity, is creamy to the touch, blends effortlessly. Special packaging features the Star Trek logo in metallic silver.

  • Features a soft and creamy texture
  • Features a lightweight, sheer luminous formula
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Ophthalmologist tested
  • Non-acnegenic
  • For all skin types

Luna Luster is described as a sheer wash of soft rose shimmer. That’s fairly accurate. It feels a bit warmer in the pan but once swirled together it’s more neutral. The shades are a silvery light beige, a deep rose and a copper warm rose. The silvery beige shade has a chunky glitter to it. The other shades is fine. The result is a fine metallic shimmer with some chunky micro glitter. The texture has a lightweight dry feel to it. You can actually hear your finger glide across the powder. The only other powder I’ve come across with this texture is Addiction’s eyeshadow in Christmas Love. I disagree with MAC’s description of it being a creamy texture.

The retail is $34 for 10 oz. The size is like one of MAC’s powder compacts. It is stable in the pan, I dropped mine once already and it didn’t shatter. The sheen is somewhat sheer and buildable. It’s frostier than the Mineralized Skin Finishes but not as frosty and intense as some really metallic highlighters. It has a sheerness to it. I like it, the only thing I don’t like is the chunkier micro glitter in this shade. It lasted average, maybe 6 hours before fading.
