Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter Fireball: Review & Swatches

Urban Decay just came out with new Afterglow Powder Highlighters for this summer. I grabbed fireball a stunning peach with a pink shift.

Per Urban Decay’s website: “Recovering from an especially late night? Overindulged in one too many margaritas? With Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Highlighter, nobody will ever know. Hide the aftermath of your bad decisions and give your skin a luminous, illuminated look with very little effort.

Afterglow isn’t your average highlighter; we took the time to finely mill the powder until it was just right. The result: a lightweight (yet luxurious) feel and a super-soft, creamy texture. Afterglow Highlighter goes on sheer and blends easily. Use a little or a lot; our wearable formula always applies beautifully, no matter how much you build it (and never leaves just a powdery dusting of shimmer). Available in a range of shades suitable for any skin tone, Afterglow creates a glowy, strobed effect that lasts all day (even if you’re crashing at your desk by 3pm).

We got our inspiration for Afterglow Highlighter from our popular Fireball Eyeshadow. We couldn’t stop using this trippy duotone as a highlighter, so we developed a mellower version of that shade in our Afterglow formula.” The retail is $26 and these are the same size as the blushes 6.8g.

The shade is as they describe, a peach with an iridescent pink shift. It changes in the light and was very hard to capture accurately. I found if I edited the photos by cropping or anything else the iridescence went away. So these are unedited so you can see the color shift better. The color is like an icy fire almost, it has the most beautiful glow to it. It’s warm yet when it shifts in some light it almost has this icy feel to it. It’s hard to describe. I could see it glowing on my cheeks in the bathroom with the lights off(with natural light). It really creates the most beautiful glow. I have no highlighter like it in my collection. I skipped the other two shades until I could see them in person because I figure I have something similar to them, but this is very unique and I can’t stop squealing over it. Luckily it’s permanent. I also found this great as a blush alone or layered over a blush. I tried it over Urban Decay’s Video Afterglow Blush.

When Urban Decay came out with their Gwen Stefani blush palette the only shade I wanted was OC so I didn’t grab it. I’m so glad I waited for this. It seems similar but I would have to compare in person. I love their Afterglow Blush formula and this one doesn’t disappoint either. It lasts at least eight hours on me, isn’t powdery, even though when you swatch it this looks like it could kick up powder. It melds right with your skin for an ethereal glow. If you love duo chromes and such I would go run out and grab this. It’s currently on Urban Decay’s website and soon to be on others like Sephora etc.
