Hylamide SubQ Anti-Age

I tend to not buy or use Hylamide by Deciem as much as The Ordinary or NIOD. It just doesn’t speak to me as much as The Ordinary and NIOD. I did want to both the SubQ serums as they were recommended by Caroline Hirons. I already tried the SubQ Eyes so next up is the Hylamide SubQ Anti-Age. Details per Hylamide:

For multi-depth rehydration and reduction in the look of lines and irregularities. A highly active concentrate of advanced hyaluronic complexes, next-generation peptides and biotechnological technologies to target rehydration, while improving the look of lines, wrinkles, sagging skin and textural damage.

SubQ Anti-Age Technologies Clinically-advanced serum for rehydration, a plump, healthy appearance and visible texture regularity:

Copper Lysinate/Prolinate Next-generation pro-collagen Swiss technology for overall improvement in visible skin health and visible skin age
Nonapeptide-3 Retino-Complex A novel technology that promotes better visible anti-aging results than Retinol with less irritation
Next-Generation Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 Advanced form of Matrixyl (TM of Sederma) helps to reduce the look of lines, wrinkles and surface irregularities
Five forms of hyaluronic compounds

  • Ultra pure, non-animal-origin Hyaluronic Acid targets surface hydration and visible elasticity
  • Two forms of very-low-molecular Hyaluronic Complex act quickly to promote rehydration
  • A novel Hyaluronic Acid pre-cursor helps skin look plump and healthy
  • A tamarind-derived plant hyaluronic form supports immediate rehydration

Multi-functional saccharide identical in form to skin carbohydrates

  • Offers lasting rehydration with continued use
  • Promotes comfortable skin feel within just 2 weeks
  • Improves appearance of skin texture
  • Supports healthy skin barrier function

Antarctic and Hawaiian Algae Complex To support renewal and help prevent moisture loss

Next-generation skin binding glycoprotein for increased active exposure Advanced binding agent optimizes skin exposure to active technologies for a boosted effect

Directions Apply to entire face AM and PM after cleansing. Ideally follow with application of SubQ Eyes and specific Hylamide Boosters as needed.

This comes packaged in the standard Deciem glass bottle with dropper. While I hate the dropper with a passion I still buy the formulations as they are all amazing. I love the Deciem technologies and well thought out formulations. This serum has a moisturizing lighter texture. It’s not water light but it’s not The Ordinary Buffet/HA 2% gel thick. I don’t recall there being a scent and the color of the serum is clear. This serum hydrates lightly and sinks in fairly quickly. I actually really liked the texture and wish The Ordinary Buffet and HA serums could be this lighter texture.

Copper Lysinate/Prolinate is an amino acid mineral complex and copper peptide. Copper peptides help stimulate collagen and elastin production, reduce inflammation and promote wound healing. The Nonapeptide-3 Retino-Complex is interesting promising less irritation from retinol. It’s so hard to find any real info about this ingredient online beyond the Deciem website and other reviews. There’s no published articles or any research related to it. I found it non irritating personally but to be honest all retinols are fine for me expect prescriptions strength. The only information I found on this ingredient came from beautybythegeeks.comUsing simpler language, this ingredient is ultimately nine amino acids combined with a form of retinol. BBTG regulars will know about retinol: it’s a vitamin A-derivative with serious prowess for promoting collagen production! Coupling retinol with a chain of amino acids is said to help to deliver it more quickly into the skin.”

Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 is a next generation peptide of Matrixyl which helps signal your skin to produce more collagen thus diminishing lines and wrinkles with time. Add in five forms of hyaluronic acid for hydration. Those are the interesting ingredients. I’ll let Deciem’s description stand for the rest. So did it work? Maybe. I found it to be a lovely hydrating hyaluronic acid serum that did have some extra oomph from peptides & retinol. It did help with the firmness and moisture levels in my skin. There was a slight reduction in my wrinkles as well. Was it a total game changer? No. It was nice, better than a traditional hyaluronic acid serum. I do get better results from some other retinols.

I think for a beginner in retinols or a minimalist who wants HA/retinol/peptides in one formula this serum great. Or someone on a budget. This combines three main skincare categories in one for $38 which is pretty good. For those of us who are skincare snobs & like picking and choosing their HA/retinol/peptides for the day from their unnecessarily large stash you may not like it for that reason. It is a nicely rounded serum and I love the lighter texture. I wouldn’t repurchase because I like NIOD MMHC and my other retinols better. Deciem please make The Ordinary products this similar texture. Thank you.

  1. For me, this was a pass. Lots of fancy words – “SubQ Anti-Age Technologies” is a made-up term and basically says nothing for me. I think Deciem is sometimes overwhelming when describing their ingredients. Anyway, for me it boiled down to the efficacy – I didn’t notice anything while I used this serum. Too bad. :/
