Sunday Riley Auto Correct

I love Sunday Riley skincare. For the most part the line generally does what it says it will do. I was super excited for the new launch of Auto Correct Brightening and Depuffing Eye Contour Cream. Details per Sephora:

An eye cream that instantly delivers a lifted and depuffed look to the eye area while rapidly reducing the appearance of dark circles and fine lines.

Auto Correct Brightening and Depuffing Eye Contour Cream instantly gives a brighter, lifted look, while reducing the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. Caffeine and Brazilian ginseng root extract rapidly reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles, energizing tired-looking eyes. Concentrated horse chestnut and acamella oleracea extracts smooth the appearance of crow’s feet and fine lines while giving an instantly lifted look. Antioxidant-rich lutein provides a radiant glow to the fragile skin around the eye. Cocoa and shea butter plump the skin with moisture, as watermelon rind extract and sodium PCA infuse hydration into the skin. Eyes look fresher, younger, depuffed, and more rested for immediate and noticeable results.

Active Ingredients

-Caffeine: Reduces the appearance of dark circles and puffiness for a more refined, brighter-looking eye area.
-Brazilian Ginseng Root Extract: Diminishes the appearance of eye contour puffiness.
-Horse Chestnut Extract: Provides a lifted look to the eye area, smoothing the appearance of crow’s feet.
-Acmella Oleracea Extract: Instantly smooths the look of expression lines around the eye area.

This sounded great when I bought it. I like caffeine, horse chestnut & ginseng. Auto Correct sounded like a hydrating eye cream to depuff, brighten the eye area and help with wrinkles. It even has watermelon rind extract. Love. It also lists coco and shea butter, antioxidants & PCA for hydrating. I loved the INCI list it sounded amazing & I’ve always loved Sunday Riley in the past. I actually stopped the Tata Harper cream I was using to try this right away because it sounded like a dream product that I had to slap on my face right away. I was excited when it came in the mail.

Auto Correct has a light cream texture combined with a brightening pearl effect. The cream has a pale slighty peachy hue with the pearl effect from micro shimmer. This has quite a bit of shimmer but I wouldn’t classify it as a highlighter or anything. It’s more than the average illuminating eye cream (beyond Tata Harper Illuminating Eye Cream which has quite a bit as well). So it does add some instant brightening from a cosmetic standpoint because of the shimmer.

I don’t remember there being a strong scent or anything. It wasn’t anything I was paying attention to. As you know some products demand attention from your nose right away. I love the glass pump it comes in. Very chic and sleek. The glass is coated with some kind of mirror like coating. All under a layer of clear glass it’s very cool. One of my favorite packages she’s done in a while. I haven’t been a fan of the brightly colored plastic tubs Sunday Riley has recently been putting out. Sadly, the packaging and INCI list are the only plus for this eye cream.

This feels lightly hydrating at first but by the end of the day my eyes were so dried out and irritated. It took me a while to link it to this eye cream. I stopped using it one day and the extreme dryness and irritation stopped by the next morning. I tried using this again and the dryness and irritation immediately came back. It usually comes around midday, not right away. I also don’t mean slight irritation-this was full on dry, irritated under eyes. It made my eyes look dry, creepy, dehydrated and my dark circles were worse from the dryness and irritation. On my last day of testing I applied this to one eye and not the other. That same one eye had the same side effects, the other eye was fine.

I don’t know what ingredient is the culprit for the dryness and irritation as nothing stands out as a red flag. Usually I get this kind of irritation from SD-40 Alcohol. It’s not in the INCI list. This did provide immediate brightening from the pearl and lighter tint to the cream. It also does depuff well and lift to some degree. So it does have some bonuses going for it. I used this for two weeks and wouldn’t touch it again-it was that bad. I know others experienced the same side effects, not everyone but enough to know it wasn’t just me. Now I will patiently wait for the next Sunday Riley product to launch and hope it’s a better hit.
