SUQQU: New Brushes

You all know how much I love SUQQU eyeshadows as well as the original brushes. SUQQU launched some new brushes on Selfridges a bit ago and I’ve been meaning to compare them for a while. The old brushes are made of grey squirrel hair. They are the softest, least dense brushes ever. They’re great for pigmented and soft powders for laying down a light a soft wash of color. If you want the best blush brush ever for a really pigmented blush it’s the original SUQQU. I love their power brush as well as my all time favorite for a light power dusting. It picks up such a light amount of powder that you never overdo it.

The new brushes on Selfridges are made of dyed goat hair. They’re way more dense and give a heavier application of color. They’re still soft but just a very different brush in general. I used to buy the original grey squirrel version on Selfridges online. I think my first purchase was around 2013 or so for a brush. They used to go out of stock so fast, you literally stalked the website to get one. I’ve had mine for almost ten years now and they still function amazingly. Take care of them well and they last. Now you can get the grey squirrel brushes on Harrod’s and Liberty but only the goat hair on Selfridges. I’m not sure why Selfridges stopped carrying the original as they’re my favorite international retailer.

So the new brushes beyond hair type and feel have different shapes. Below you can see the new goat hair Powder Brush on the left and the original on the right. The shape is less tapered and more dense on the new one. If you want a lighter more wispy application of powder then the original version is best. I found the new one to be too dense for my tastes. I know the new one is way cheaper than the old one but it’s not nearly as good. Save your money for the original grey squirrel version.

The Blush Brush has a more similar shape to the original. The difference is going to be similar. The original (right) is wispy and gives a super light application of powder, the newer version (left) gives a more dense application of color. The new SUQQU goat brush is akin to many on the market and it’s a good one if you’re looking for one that does a good application of color. If you’re one who’s used to the old version it’s just not the same. Use the new version for more light or less pigmented blushes. Use the old one for those really pigmented shades. The wispy soft light old version is what made it so famous on the market. Honestly there’s nothing else like it, once you try it–you know.

The Smudging Brush is a round short brush good for creases, under the lash line and other tight, small areas. I compared it below to the SUQQU S Brush (left) which is smaller in size and shape. The new SUQQU Smudging Brush (right) is smaller than the SUQQU M Brush (gray squirrel). I have the second S brush, not the original which I heard is different. The difference is similar–The original is a bit wispier and softer, gives a slightly lighter application of color. The Smudging Brush gives a slightly heavier application of color. These two aren’t a huge amount different unlike the blush and powder brushes.

Overall the difference is pretty substantial between the new goat hair version and the original grey squirrel version. If you came to love SUQQU brushes for the light, wispy application of color you won’t like the new version nearly as much. The new version isn’t bad by any means it’s just pretty different. Which version you like depends what you want out of a brush. I liked the original for their unique light and wispy brushes. There’s really nothing else like them on the market. Do I need them? No. Do I love and use them a lot over the last almost decade–hell yes.
