Biologique Recherche: Part 2

I thought it was time for my second round post about Biologique Recherche. You can read my first post HERE which talks about the brand, P50 versions I’ve tried and masks etc. I decided to try Lotion P50V recently which is geared more towards dehydrated or drier skins. It adds yeast to hydrate. It feels very similar on my skin to P50 just maybe a touch milder. We’ll see how it goes but I may consider buying this as my next full size version. P50 whatever version you pick is for exfoliating and increasing cellular turnover. It helps with dullness, breakouts and increasing overall radiance of the skin. It’s pricey yes but it’s the original acid toner that has yet to be beat by anyone. It does smell of vinegar but you get used to it. This has a well rounded acid profile with AHAs, PHAs and BHAs. Think of it as the king of all acid toners.

Ingredients

Water (Aqua), Gluconolactone, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Lactic Acid, Ethoxydiglycol, Vinegar (Acetum), Magnesium Chloride, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Phytic Acid, Spongilla Lacustris Spicule Extract, Yeast Extract (Faex Extract), Cochlearia Armoracia (Horseradish) Root Extract, Capsicum Frutescens Fruit Extract, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Seed Extract, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Sulfur, Sodium Salicylate, Salicylic Acid, Sorbitol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Metabisulfite, Sodium Benzoate.

I’m a huge fan of the Emulsion Originelle which is a soothing lightweight cream. I’ve always wanted to try Emulsion Gel Biosensible which is a lighter gel cream version. There is also a SR version which is for more oily types as it has mattifying properties. Details per BR:

Part of our Biosensible range, the Emulsion Gel Biosensible immediately calms and alleviates discomfort on the skin. This gel is ideal for sensitive, dehydrated Skin Instants which need immediate relief from external aggressors or have been traumatised by cosmetic procedures and aesthetic treatments. Containing grape seed oil and sacha inchi oil to relipidate the skins’ barrier, hyaluronic acid to moisturise, royal jelly to soothe, and squash and pomegranate extract to protect. Gel Biosensible will calm stressed skins as well as restore and strengthen the deficient hydrolipidic film.

I love the light gel cream texture as it’s really easy to layer. It never pills and just adds a nice hydrating and soothing layer. It’s got natural moisturizing factors, calming, soothing, regenerating and protective ingredients. On the surface it seems like a simple product but in typical Biologique Recherche fashion it feels amazing on the skin. I don’t know what it is about some of their products but even though they seem simple and expensive they’re really fantastic on the skin. As always it’s fragrance and alcohol free. I love the airless slim pump it comes in as well.

This does have perfluorodecalin which is an oxygenating ingredient in skincare plus sacha inchi and grape seed oil, sugars, milk protein, vegetable protein, silk, sea water, honey (humectant), yeast, royal jelly (restorative, nutritional), gluconolactone, red algae (soothing, hydrating), vinegar and natural moisturizing factors like urea, lactic acid, amino acids, minerals and peptides. It combines soothing with regenerating and replenishing which is what makes it so nice. It’s gentle and pleasant to use. It gives a nice pep to my skin when I use it.

Creme Biofixine has to be the most expensive cream I’ve purchased in a while. It was my birthday present to myself late last year. I tried a few samples over the year previous and found it to be really a nice cream. Details per BR:

Crème Biofixine will help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin elasticity and prevent the visible signs of ageing. Anti-wrinkle agents of walnut extract and green anise will help to smooth, edelweiss to fight free radicals and grape seed oil to moisturise the skin. Studies have shown a 20% reduction on forehead lines and 22% on smile lines. This cream could be used by all but is better suited to devitalised Skin Instants concerned with fine lines and wrinkles. A powerful youth enhancing cream.

Ingredients

Water (Aqua), Stearic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Palmitic Acid, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Polysorbate-40, Pentylene Glycol, Cetyl Alcohol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Butylene Glycol, Tea-Stearate, Peg-2 Stearate, Perfluorodecalin, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Polyperfluoromethylisopropyl Ether, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Seed Extract, Leontopodium Alpinum Flower/Leaf Extract, Nasturtium Officinale Extract, Pimpinella Ansium (Anise) Fruit Extract, Tocopherol, Sodium Benzoate, Caprylyl Glycol, P-Anisic Acid, Poloxamer 188, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Metabisulfite.

This cream has a lighter whipped texture than my usual love Creme Masque Vernix. Creme Biofixine is a great winter day cream or a summer night cream. It was described to me as the anti-aging cream from BR. It again seems like such a simple cream per the inci list and I wondered why it was so expensive for what it was. I got several samples and blew through them quickly because it was so good. It has a lighter almost whipped and airy texture yet it’s still very nourishing and hydrating. I believe in serums to do my anti-aging for me in general and my creams just need to be barrier repair and replenishment. However not all creams are created equal.

Some really do help reduce lines and wrinkles, plump and firm better than others. Those are the ones I pay attention too. I’m in the more mature category now. It makes a total difference to me if a cream is just OK or really spectacular. I can see the difference when I wake up in the morning, regardless of what my active serums were on underneath. This cream manages to be in the spectacular range. It may not be for a younger person because they don’t need it yet, but a more mature skin person might really appreciate it. I would say this one does what it says, it’s for someone concerned with lines and wrinkles who wants plumping and a revitalizing feel the next morning.

Don’t ask me to explain how the ingredients of BR creams or products work when they seem simple. I don’t know how they do it. I’ve tried a multitude of creams from BR and a lot I’m not impressed with because they’re not for my skin type. That’s a big part about BR, finding the right match for you. When you do it can be great. Creme Masque Vernix and Creme Biofixine are so far the only two creams I really love from the line. They kill my pocket book every time but they do last a long time. Think of Creme Masque Vernix as the ultimate healer and heavy hydrator, it plumps beyond belief while Creme Biofixine is the medium weight anti-aging revitalizing cream. Both plump wrinkles & lines out well overnight.

Serum de Teint is the newest launch from the brand. I was immediately intrigued so I had to purchase. It took me forever to decide which shade to get. I went back and forth between shade 2 & 3 for a month before purchasing. This is a tinted finishing serum with antioxidant and anti-pollution properties. Details per BR:

Ingredients

Water, pentylene glycol, triheptanoin, CI 77891 (titanium dioxide), buddleja officinalis flower extract, coco-caprylate/caprate, glycerin, silica, butylene glycol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, hydrogenated polycyclopentadiene, opuntia ficus-indica seed oil, tocopheryl acetate, sodium acrylates copolymer, magnesium aluminum silicate, lecithin, ethylhexylglycerin, biosaccharide gum-4, sodium citrate, xanthan gum, alteromonas ferment filtrate, vibrio alginolyticus ferment filtrate, capryl glycol, diaminopropionoyl tripeptide-33, CI 77492 (iron oxides), CI 77491 (iron oxides), CI 77499 (iron oxides), phenoxyethanol.

This looks thick when you pump it, but it’s lighter than it looks and then really blends into the skin beautifully. It’s got sheer coverage as far as the tinted part goes. I ended up settling on shade 2 which actually brightens my lighter medium skin tone well. One of the things I really love about this is the way it brightens and evens the skin tone overall. In addition to the tint this has antioxidant and anti-pollution properties which is nice but I use good skincare in general so it’s not the selling point for me to need another expensive serum. This is essentially an expensive tinted finishing serum. It’s a hybrid of makeup and skincare that may not be for everyone. The coverage is sheer, the effect is brightening and it evens the skin tone. Things a normal sheer foundation can do as well.

The hybrid of skincare with color is what I like about it. You could in theory use this after skincare and be done. Depends on what you like in your routine and makeup look. The one thing I really enjoy about this product is its ability to help control oil all day. It really does a phenomenal job at that. It helps mattify but in a comfortable way. I find many mattifying products too drying but not this one. Once the hot & humid summer full on hits south Texas I’ll be living in this. I imagine I’ll end up skipping this in the winter a lot as I have more normal to dry skin in the winter. However, you can layer Serum de Teint over a heavier than usual moisturizer which will tone down the heavy feeling of the moisturizer plus help counteract the drying feeling you can get from this. If you have combo to oily skin you will absolutely love this year round. It’s so balancing and controls oil all day.

Do you need this? No. If you have the money and like skincare mixed with color it’s really nice. This is for the skincare enthusiast who likes a good formulation & multi-use product. If you want light coverage that gives you a brightening pep combined with oil control and some bonus antioxidant/anti-pollution properties then you will love this. I need to try shade 3 for summer just to see the difference. This has a pump style applicator and glass bottle so it feels very luxurious. I imagine anyone in that MAC N/NC15-30 could probably use shade 2. Deeper than NC 30 would likely be shade 3. I’m around a NC 27 if that helps. Overall I really love the balancing effect and overall brightening of my skin tone, plus I get bonus anti-pollution benefits. I did ask multiple people whether this goes on before or after sunscreen. I got multiple answers. Some salons said before SPF so I tried it that way, then some said after SPF so I tried it that way. I asked Biologique Recherche and they said either way was fine. Out of both ways I prefer after SPF, it’s the most logical for me.

I did not get to use the Splenodermine yet, it was a good prop. More coming on this firming serum after I use it.
