Earthwise Beauty: Overview

I’ve been wanting to tell you about Earthwise Beauty for a while. Earthwise Beauty is one of my favorite organic luxury skin care brands. Created by Ava Zhan who’s been making her own skincare concoctions for years. They’re cruelty free, hand made in small batches & sustainable. They’re also well done formulations. I love the odd and rare ingredients they use. Earthwise Beauty grows their own plants for use in their products (They might source a thing or two but most are grown by them). Earthwise Beauty has a wide variety of products. I’ve tried a good portion of them. One of my favorite things about Earthwise Beauty is that they sell minis so you can play with it first and see if you want a big one. I love it when companies do that.

Citrus and Moonlight Face Mist This is such a unique mist. It’s not overly hydrating & has more of a light toner texture. This has a light citrus meets mineral scent. I like the unique essences in this as they all have some kind of energetic impact. Earthwise Beauty is definitely a brand focused on the whole body experience. If you want to try a different kind of mist this is it with the unique gem essence combination. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

Cistus hydrosol is recommended for reducing signs of aging, from wrinkles to lack of skin firmness, and is pore minimizing, naturally antibacterial (also anti-viral and anti-fungal), anti-acne, and nurturing, yet nondrying and extremely mild. We’ve included only minimal additions to the hydrosol in this mist to allow you to savor the scent and the cistus properties. A touch of cold-press organic whole-leaf aloe juice has been added for its skin reparative and cooling properties.

This mist is enriched with several medicinally prepared gem and flower essences, effectively turning it into an aura mist (aura mists are sprayed a few times a day above one’s head for emotional and spiritual benefits).

Energetic Impact:

Rainbow moonstone gem essence: regulates hormones and mood swings, recommended especially for women and for mothers; strongly enhances a woman’s yin qualities, especially receptivity and patience. Softens harsher moods. On a physical level, moonstone essence is used for premenstrual and menstrual tension.

Mangano calcite gem essence: a unique heart-comforting essence for healing a painful past and emotional wounds. Makes one feel safe and loved in the present, no matter what the past was.

Clear quartz gem essence: clears old, toxic, stale, unhealthy energies. Lifts fatigue and lethargy. Clears the head. Quartz amplifies natural medicines and makes them potent for longer periods of time.

Alaskan monkshood flower essence: an invaluable essence for people who are shy, reclusive, fearful, anxious, or feeling emotionally weak, small, or vulnerable. Monkshood helps one maintain clear energetic boundaries and eases fears, including irrational fears. Promotes acceptance of one’s introverted side.

Pacific Northwest pink phlox flower essence: enhances one’s innate gentleness and sweetness, helps one achieve quiet, lightness, and softening, and promotes blissful sleep.

Thelma Lip Treatment is an utter delight. This has such a nice light buttery texture. It’s truly divine. It’s got this warm nutty scent I’m totally addicted to. It’s nourishing while not being heavy or occlusive. I wish this came in stick format only because I’m not a pot lip balm fan. I only own three pot lip balms & Thelma is one of the three because it’s exceptional. If you want a lip balm that truly nourishes and repairs and doesn’t just do the occlusive thick seal thing then this one is for you. It actually makes you feel like you need lip balm less when you use it regularly. Bonus. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

Our lip treatment took 41 trial runs and a year to develop and test. This may sound like overthinking, but the truth is that Ava had very specific goals for this lip healer. She wanted it to be something creamy, nutty, and yummy that you long to reach for and apply, but foremost, she wanted to give you a lip balm that truly heals the lips. The outcome of our trials is a vegan lip treatment in a soft, fluffy balm format that radically heals the lip tissue. Your lips will look smooth, even-textured, and naturally firm, and after the first several uses, you won’t need to reapply Thelma often, even if it is the middle of winter: your lips will be healthier and more resilient.

The mega-penetrating qualities of Thelma come from the South African mafura butter and from the Brazilian bacuri butter, both ingredients used by the indigenous cultures of each region as heal-alls for wounds, eczema, and dry, cracked skin. We added Brazil nut oil for its bounty of minerals and vitamins, and mango kernel butter to enhance smoothness and elasticity of the lip tissue. We wanted a lip product with a subtle flavor that comes from the edible ingredients, not from flavorings. To achieve this, we chose plant butters with notes of caramel and cocoa, and we infused a Brazil nut oil with a rare find of vanilla beans from a new, barely-yet-known vanilla terroir.

Ingredients

Cold-press unrefined Allanblackia floribunda seed butter†, Cold-press unrefined Ximenia americana seed oil†, cold-press unrefined Bertholletia excelsa (Brazil nut) seed oil* or †, cold-press unrefined Theobroma grandiflorum (cupuaçu) seed butter†, cold-press unrefined Mangifera indica (mango) seed butter* or †, cold-press unrefined Trichilia emetica (mafura) seed butter†, cold-press unrefined Platonia insignis (bacuri) seed butter†, Sambucus nigra (elderberry) fruit extract, tocopherol (vit. E from non-GMO sunflowers), Vanilla planifolia (vanilla) extract*.

Ferns and Moss Face Serum is a more nourishing oil that works well for mature skin or skin that needs healing. It will help with firmness and increasing the supple texture of your skin as well. Even though this is listed as a more nourishing oil I find it almost medium textured. It doesn’t feel heavy at all to me. I’ve tried a lot of oils that feel heavier on the skin. This one just feels nourishing. I prefer this one as a night oil. Ferns and Moss has some of my favorite oils like healing tamanu, sacha inchi and sea buckthorn. It has an earthy kind of scent to it and a deep yellow color. This is my second favorite oil by the brand. I purchased a mini and I love that size. I have so many oils it’s nice to have smaller sizes and not have oils go bad before you can use them all. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

This deeply nurturing, concentrated treatment product in the form of a thick, substantial facial oil was created especially for the skin that needs serious nourishing, repair, restructuring, moisture retention, healing, cell regeneration, or detoxing (a need for detoxing is evident as recurring dark spots or an overall unhealthily dark or dull facial appearance, or as water retention and a puffy appearance), as well as damage and wrinkle reversal.

It is a deeply yet slowly penetrating formula particularly suited for skin that seems to be thoroughly dry into its deep layers, mature, wrinkled, prematurely aged, with recent wounds that need to heal without any scars, chapped, tight, with dry eczema, even itchy, or with a tendency toward puffiness (water and lymph retention).

In short: if your skin is so dry that nothing works, if your scratches or wounds are just healing, or healing slowly, if your skin cracks or lacks suppleness, body, and firmness, this is the product for you. We particularly recommend this serum for ages 40 or older. Start small, rubbing a few drops at a time into damp skin to gauge how much you need without overdoing it. This serum is not designed to give you an instant lift or glow but to thoroughly reconstruct your skin’s cells over a longer period of time.

For all skin types, especially dry to very dry, mature, damaged, aged, wrinkled, lacking firmness, with dry eczema, with healing wounds or recent scars, allergy-prone, and sensitive

Ingredients

Yasuni Face Balm is one of my all time favorite face balms. I’ve already talked about it multiple times. It is so light yet nourishing. It’s unique and one of the things I recommend you try most from the brand. This has a hard texture, you need to actually scrape it out with a nail or spoon. It melts in the palm of your hand an applies with the lighter texture of an oil. It sinks in so quickly that it doesn’t have that greasy heavy feel you get from a traditional balm. This was a finalist in the Beauty Shortlist Awards 2019 for a reason.

This balm uses fruit oils which are rich in antioxidants and provide a slight enzymatic action on the skin. Yasuni also helps balance the skin in addition to the typical nourishing and firming feel you get from a balm. This has green coffee oil which is one of my favorite skincare ingredients. It’s high in fatty acids, vitamin E and sterols making it an antioxidant. Some studies have shown that coffee essential oil helps with elastin and collagen production, it’s anti-inflammatory & helps with all the basic of anti-aging like firmness, texture and wrinkles. If you like balms at all try this one. You’ll love it. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

Yasuni is based on fruit oils that have particularly high and wide-ranging phytonutrient levels and enzymatic action. This balm works similarly to a retinol on the skin, exfoliating and resurfacing it, but with none of the irritation, redness, or peeling often caused by actual retinol products. It is also an ideal balm for healing acne and reducing blackheads and oil production.

The star feature of this balm is its enzymatic mild exfoliation from fruit oils alone. The açai oil exfoliates and resurfaces the skin similarly to a retinol product, but being a fruit oil, it doesn’t overexfoliate or cause redness or intense peeling. Even more retinol-like action is supplied by the buriti oil, which is exceptionally high in betacarotenes. The enzymes keep sebum oil production in check, so oily skin types become more balanced and are not shiny at the end of the day, and the appearance of blackheads is greatly reduced over time.

The deep green, whole-fruit açai fruit oil we’ve sourced is also the acne sufferer’s dream come true: this very light, extract-like oil heals and dries up acne due to its enzymes and high vitamin C content, and unlike most other effective acne ingredients, it is nonirritating. The açai oil’s anti-acne action is supported by the astringent kokum butter (cold extracted from mangosteen kernels), which helps to minimize pores, speed healing of acne breakouts, and promote skin firmness.

A few plant butters and other oils worth highlighting are the hydrating marula oil and cupuaçu butter, firming tucuma butter, deeply penetrating bacuri butter, sun-damage-correcting raspberry oil, and revitalizing cranberry oil.

Ingredients

Cold-press unrefined Theobroma grandiflorum (cupuaçu) seed butter†, cold-press unrefined Garcinia indica (kokum) seed butter†, cold-press unrefined Platonia insignis (bacuri) seed butter†, cold-press unrefined Astrocaryum tucuma seed butter†, cold-press unrefined Euterpe oleracea (açai) fruit oil†, cold-press unrefined non-GMO Vaccinium macrocarpon (cranberry) seed oil (organic whenever available), cold-press unrefined Rubus ideaus (raspberry) seed oil*, cold-press unrefined Coffea arabica (green coffee) seed oil†, cold-press unrefined Sclerocarya birrea (marula) seed oil*, tocopherol (vit. E from non-GMO sunflowers), cold-press unrefined Mauritia flexuosa (buriti) fruit oil†, Sambucus nigra (elderberry) fruit extract.

Magical Babassau Face Oil is the thickest and most nourishing of the oils. This one is definitely best for drier skin. While it’s thicker and richer it’s not exceptionally heavy. It’s a unique oil. It has lycopene rich oils like carrot and tomato combined with sacha inchi, brazil nut oil and babassau oil. It’s also scented with vetiver, lotus and tobacco. What a unique combination. This does have shea butter so shake it before use. Sacha inchi has a nice omega 3 to omega 6 balanced ratio. It’s light and antioxidant rich. It’s all over now because it’s a really great oil that’s lightweight and great for all skin types. Babassau oil is healing and anti-inflammatory with some antibacterial properties. I liked this oil at night in the winter the most for the nourishing effect. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

Creamy, velveteen, light-feel Magical Babassu Face Oil is all about hydrating, softening, and smoothing the skin without a heavy or oily feel. This medium-weight oil is very lightly scented with fresh white and pink lotus (I take a whiff of my properly diluted pink lotus and want to swoon), along with hints of forest-honey-like, delicate mimosa and nutty virgin babassu oil. Other subtle undertones come from tobacco absolute, derived from the leaves and processed to be nicotine free, which lends a complex, leathery, moist-sweet natural fragrance and has grounding aromatherapy benefits—it makes one’s spirit feel full and complete—as well as Haitian vetiver, which anchors the scents of the more floral pink lotus and mimosa.

The key ingredient here is hand-extracted, cold-press, unrefined babassu oil from Brazil, with its light and powdery feel, “dry butter” consistency, meltability on contact with the skin, and powerful redness- and dryness-reducing properties. This unique oil-butter heals and soothes, relieves itching or other discomfort, and also has gentle antibacterial properties, rendering it noncomedogenic (appropriate for acne-prone or pore-clogging-prone skin types).

Ingredients

Cold-press unrefined Attalea speciosa (babassu) seed oil† (Brazil), cold-press unrefined Bertholletia excelsa (Brazil nut) seed oil†, cold-press unrefined Butyrospermum parkii (shea) nut kernel butter†, cold-press unrefined Plukenetia volubilis (sacha inchi) seed oil* or †, cold-press unrefined Pentaclethra macroloba (pracaxi) pod oil†, cold-press unrefined Solanum lycopersicum (tomato) seed oil, cold-press unrefined Daucus carota (carrot) seed oil, tocopherol (vit. E from non-GMO sunflowers), Acacia decurrens var. dealbata (mimosa) flower absolute† (France), Vetiveria zizanioides (vetiver) root absolute* (Haiti), Nelumbo nucifera (pink and white lotus) flower absolute† (India), ethically farmed Nicotiana tabacum (tobacco) leaf absolute (nicotine free).

Black Locust Firming Concentrate is my favorite facial oil from the brand. This is also their most recent launch. Designed for more mature skin that needs a boost in firmness and elasticity (hello me in a nut shell). I love that Ava was able to create a highly nourishing oil that feels light and not heavy. This is the oil in the line most targeted towards lines, wrinkles, anti-aging, elasticity and firmness. No wonder it’s my favorite. Those are my issues as I’m not a sensitive skin or acne prone person.

Black Locust has acai, kahari melon and sea buckthorn oils with white lupine and bakuchiol. We all know bakuchiol is the new super power anti-aging natural alternative to retinol. White lupine helps with firmness. I love the texture and this oil does what it says-firms, increases elasticity and helps with wrinkles. It’s one of my favorites from the brand. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

We have often heard from customers seeking rich, nourishing products for mature and dry skin that would be modern, sophisticated, and noncomedogenic—not oily or heavy. To respond to this need, Ava created a flexible facial-care concentrate that improves a wide range of mature skin concerns, including wrinkles, loss of firmness, loss of elasticity, and roughness, all without causing clogged pores or sensitization.

Black Locust is a product of contrasts: It contains extremely nutritious seed and fruit extracts and anti-acne plant-derived ingredients in very specific ratios, for an overall effect of noncomedogenic nurturing. This oil-based concentrate can be used by itself day or night, or it can be dosed with a few drops mixed into a favorite moisturizer or face oil.

With this concentrate, we focused on ingredients that are high in the specific phytonutrients that are most beneficial for dry and mature skin (such as betacarotenes that the body converts to vitamin A, a wide spectrum of tocopherols that result in the best vitamin E complex, omega fatty acids, and many others). You can expect a long-term improvement to the skin’s elasticity, firmness, and thickness from Black Locust, not a temporary lift.

Ingredients

Euterpe oleracea (açai) fruit oil†, Citrullus lanatus (Kalahari melon) seed oil†, Lupinus albus (white lupine) seed oil and extract, Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, Triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil unsaponifiables, Hippophae rhamnoides (seabuckthorn) fruit CO2 extract* or †, bakuchiol from Psoralea corylifolia seeds, Calendula officinalis flower CO2 extract*, Sambucus nigra (black elderberry) fruit extract, Rhododendron anthopogon essential oil†, Warburgia ugandensis (greenheart wood) essential oil†, Michelia champaca flower CO2 extract or absolute†, Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract.

Marshmallow Face Cleanser was a product that was so odd to me at first but then it grew on me so much. It’s a foaming cleanser with a unique twist. This has a strong herbal base of soothing calendula, marshmallow and chamomile mixed with castille soap. It’s also got pumpkin and jojoba oils which make it a unique cleanser (neither oil nor cream based). It also has blue tansy and blue chamomile essential oils which give it the color and help with the scent. Both are soothing and have a cult following in general. I really love blue tansy but it’s not for everyone.

I use this as a morning or second cleanser. Even though it has oils in it I’m addicted to my balm and oil based cleansers first. It does leave my skin feeling squeaky clean which is most likely due to the castille soap. It’s not drying. Overall it has a unique texture and feel to it. Plus the scent is very different. I like it better since it’s been reformulated a hint. A few months back (almost a year a guess) Earthwise Beauty changed all their packaging and dropped some old products, added some new and reformulated a few existing products. This cleanser used to separate bad for me in the old formula and the scent was stronger. Now it doesn’t seem to separate and the scent is lighter which is an improvement.

For this soothing herbal face cleanser, we hand-mix organic castille soap with a dose of strong-brewed calendula flowers, marshmallow roots, and chamomile flowers, and then we add unrefined cold-press pumpkin seed oil and golden jojoba seed oil. The blue tansy and German blue chamomile oils we use are a very dark, midnight blue color, which is one way to ensure that they are the highest grade available (lower-grade oils are thinner and paler blue or almost green in color). These deep blue oils (rich in chamazule ne) are anti-inflammatory, calming, soothing, repairing, and antiviral. The combination of German and Roman chamomile and Moroccan chamomile (blue tansy) with just a touch of violet leaf and galbanum also results in a light, comforting, and mind-soothing scent.

Ingredients

Herbal infusion {distilled water, Althaea officinalis (marshmallow) root*, Calendula officinalis (marigold) flowers (* or organic from our gardens), Matricaria recutita (chamomile) buds*}, water, saponified Cocos nucifera (coconut) oil*†, cold-press unrefined Cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed oil (organic whenever available), Simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil, cold-press whole-leaf Aloe barbadensis leaf juice*, vegetable glycerin (from non-GMO soy)*, saponified Olea europaea (olive) oil*†, potassium hydroxide (but none remains in final product, after saponifying oils into soap and glycerin), Cannabis sativa (hemp) oil*, natural ECOCERT preservative {glycerin, Leuconostoc (radish root) ferment filtrate, Lonicera japonica (honeysuckle) flower extract, Lonicera caprifolium (honeysuckle) extract, Populus tremuloides (quaking aspen) bark extract, gluconolactone}, guar gum, gluconolactone (from non-GMO corn), organic Tanacetum annuum (blue tansy/Moroccan chamomile) oil, Matricaria recutita (German blue chamomile) oil*, Melissa officinalis (lemon balm) oil*, Ferula galbaniflua (galbanum) oil*, organic Viola odorata (violet) leaf absolute, citric acid, tocopherol (vit. E from non-GMO sunflowers).

I love the recent packaging redo on the line. I’m a minimalist person and I love the rose gold logo. My top two picks from what I talked about today is the Yasuni Face Balm & Black Locust Firming Concentrate. It’s quickly followed by Thelma Lip Treatment and Marshmallow Face Cleanser. I have become an Earthwise Beauty ambassador which I’m super stoked about that as I love Ava’s creations. You can save 10% off your purchase of Earthwise Beauty products with code ‘Beauty Endeavor’. I have a round two I will post of new items I just received so stay tuned.

*I encourage you to read more on the Earthwise Beauty website on each product as they really go into the details of ingredients and comparisons to other products in the line that I can’t really fit in this post.

**A few of the products above are gifted, as always all thoughts are my own
