May Lindstrom The Blue Cocoon

With fall arriving (finally) I’m ready to pull out my facial balms again. I thought icon May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon deserves it’s own post. I’ve wanted this pot of blue heaven since I’ve seen it on Caroline Hirons blog years ago. I finally caved last winter and bought one. This is now my second jar. Details per May Lindstrom:

Our balmy blue enchantress greets your skin with cool serenity, melting on touch to a fluid potion that tenderly envelopes you in the most decadent azule calm. Mystical blue tansy eases feelings of emotional anxiety while releasing heat and providing nourishing hydration and relief to even the most delicate and troubled skin conditions. The Blue Cocoon is essentially the most beautiful and transformative facial oil you’ve ever experienced, in a unique waterless and waxless balm form.

Upon contact with skin, this stunning concentrate melts immediately to a gorgeous fluid. This is effective both as your primary moisturizer or as a special treatment for skin that is sensitive, inflamed, damaged, acneic or irritated. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory and soothes skin in the most beautiful way, providing the perfect level of hydration and healing, eliminating redness and irritation.

Directions Melt a rice grain to pea-sized amount into fully wet skin, morning and night, immediately after cleansing. Focus on areas of sensitivity and the delicate eye contour.

Any green beauty lover or balm lover has heard of this balm. It’s iconic. The blue color comes from blue tansy. Blue tansy is actually blue from azulene. Azulene & blue tansy is very soothing and healing. It’s anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and has some antioxidant properties. Blue tansy has a very distinct scent. Once you smell it you never forget it. Blue tansy is not for everyone, while most love it I do know some who can’t take the scent. I love blue tansy, like love love it. I find it incredibly soothing and calming. I rub the balm on my palms and inhale deeply. Something about it just de-stresses me from the whole day.

The balm has other wonderful things like shea & cacao seed butter plus camellia (rich in oleic acid, vitamins A, B, D & E), marula (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory), baobab (rich in oleic & linoleic acids, anti-inflammatory), myrrh (anti-inflammatory), lavender (antibacterial, antiseptic, soothing), frankincense (astringent, brightening, reduces fine lines), rose geranium (balancing), vanilla (contains natural b vitamins) & immortelle (anti-inflammatory) oils. This balm has a lighter texture but it’s enough moisture to last all night long for me. The shea & cacao butter might deter some but to date I’ve never had a breakout issue from using this balm.

Blue Cocoon definitely has an essential oil scent but it’s a very soothing balm. If you never use essential oils because you’re sensitive it might be worth a try to get a small sample as it is such a soothing balm. I use this on nights when my skin is just stressed out either from weather changes, hormones or even small irritations. It’s so incredibly soothing and calming. It manages to restore my skin overnight. Definitely a hero product and one I would repurchase a third time. I live in this balm and a few others every winter.
