I'm always on the look out for a new and better sunscreen, especially a physical sunscreen. Read the difference between physical and chemical sunscreens here. Omorovicza just came out with a mineral or physical sunscreen early this year. I've had it for a few months and have been able to test it out well.
Omorovicza states: "This hydrating Mineral UV Shield provides SPF30 protection from UVA/B rays. Vitamin C diminishes the effects of sun damage while light-reflecting minerals blur imperfections and give a matte finish. While some mineral sunscreens have a reputation for being thick or chalky, Omorovicza’s Mineral UV Shield SPF30 is a revelation. Silica spheres encapsulate titanium dioxide to smooth over the surface of the skin, blur lines and imperfections, and leave a smooth, matte finish. Acting as your go-to sunscreen for any holiday, the Mineral UV Shield offers full SPF protection while feeling feather-light on the skin."
The key benefits are:
- Protect from the sun without irritating sensitive skin thanks to Zinc Oxide, a mineral UVA & UVB filter that provides a physical sunscreen.
- Give the skin a smooth and luminous soft-focus matter finish while providing UVA & UVB protection with Titanium Dioxide, encapsulated in mineral (Silica) spheres.
- Keep out aggressive pollutants, while allowing the skin to retain moisture more easily with Sodium Hyaluronate (high molecular weight) which forms a protective film over the skin.
- Reduce free radical damage, inhibit tyrosinase (which encourages melanin production and thus age spots), protect collagen and elastin levels with Vitamin C.
- Provide potent anti-oxidant activity on all cell levels, reduce glycation of proteins, and smooth inflammation protecting skin from free radical damage, while evening the skin tone with Annurca (Apple) Fruit Extract. Also known as the “queen of apples”.
This sunscreen uses 1.5% Titanium Dioxide and 8.6% Zinc Oxide for the physical block. The other main ingredients are: Hungarian thermal water, coconut/palm oil fatty acids, zinc oxide, silica, squalane, glycerin, olive oil derivative, titanium dioxide, olive oil derivative, vitamin C derivative, Hungarian thermal water ferment extract, sodium hyaluronate, fragrance, apricot kernel oil, vitamin E, lactic acid, phospholipids. I noticed the key benefits say apple extract but I couldn't find it in the ingredient list, maybe was a mix up with apricot, or got left out. I'm not sure on that part. The directions are to apply, then wait 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply after 40 minutes of swimming, sweating or immediately after towel drying or at least every 2 hours. The retail is $125 for a 3.4 fl oz tube which makes this a very pricey sunscreen, sunscreen with skincare benefits.
Of course, being a pricey sunscreen, it ended up being the best physical one I've ever tried. Figures. It's thin like a thicker lotion and applies evenly. It's not greasy and does take about 10 minutes to absorb fully. I never noticed any piling of this sunscreen under primer or foundation. I don't get a white cast from it, though like all physical sunscreens it does have a slight white tint. This would be most noticeable on darker skintones. There's no way you can fully get rid of the white cast in a physical sunscreen, the minerals needed to block the UV rays are white, so the only way to get rid of the white cast is to go chemical. However, you can use a physical block that has the least white cast there is, as this does. It has the very light typical Omorovicza scent.
This is an amazing physcial sunscreen. It's lightweight, non-greasy, absorbs quickly, doesn't break me out and leaves the least amount of a white cast of any physical sunscreen I've tried. It has skincare benefits as well. What's not to like?
