Adsorb Beauty: Overview

Adsorb Beauty is a new Japanese skincare line. It combines science with nature plus a new antibody technology. This is a new to the US brand that was previously only available in Doctor’s offices in Japan. Adsorb Beauty is based on a natural antibody technology from Ostrich yolk. Apparently the Ostrich has a very strong immune system (They’re more potent at combating viruses than chicken eggs per the Japanese Science and Technology Agency). Obviously the antibodies are purified then combined with peptides and other hydrators for this anti-aging line.

Antibodies are part of the body’s natural immune system. They’re also known as immunoglobulins. The antibodies utilize a liposome delivery system (three different types) which allow the nutrients to penetrate the skin. The antibody technology is supposed to help fight damaging pollutants & elements that cause skin aging. The line is free of fragrance, dyes, alcohol, preservatives, parabens & sulfates. There were three products in the initial launch, and three in the subsequent launch (I won’t be talking about those three today as I’m still playing). So far I have only seen this line at Neiman Marcus.

The AntiBody Cleansing Wash is a creamy style cleanser. It starts creamy but turns into a foaming cleanser. So ultimately this is a foaming cleanser. Details per Adsorb:

AntiBody Cleansing Wash gently and effectively removes dirt, makeup, and debris to purify skin. Natural Antibody Technology helps replenish moisture and protect skin against the visible signs of skin aging.

Directions Apply to dry skin every morning and every evening with warm water creating a foam and gently massaging into skin. Rinse well and follow with Adsorb Moist Essence for optimal results.

I’m not a huge fan of foaming cleansers in general as they tend to dry my skin out. That was the case for this cleanser sadly. It was best as a morning cleanse or second cleanse. I don’t feel it had enough oils to really be that first cleanse at night. It’s got some great plant extracts in addition to the antibodies like gotu kola & chamomile, plus amino acids, seaweed, rose flower water, squalane & hemp seed oil. It just wasn’t for me. I’ve seen others talk about it online saying how it didn’t dry them out so it’s probably just me. That being said, while this was my least favorite from the line I loved the rest of the products.

The AntiBody Gel Cream is the moisturizer of the line. Details per Adsorb:

AntiBody Gel Cream is an instant rehydrator with Natural AntiBody Technology and rich in moisturizers that plumps up skin while helping to resist the visible signs of skin aging.

Directions Apply Gel Cream liberally every morning and evening to face and neck. For most effective results, apply after Adsorb Moist Essence.

Ingredients

Water, Dimethicone, Cyclopent Asiloxane, Glycerin, Rosa Damascena Flower Water, Dimethicone/PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Sil Sesquioxane Crosspolymer, Ostrich Egg Yolk Extract, Saponaria Pumila Callus Culture Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Larix Sibirica Wood Extract, Pinus Pinaster Bark Extract, Undaria Pinnatifida Extract,  Phytosteryl/Octyldodecyl Lauroyl Glutamate, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil, Squalane, Fullerenes, Lecithin, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Stearoxy Ether, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Phaseolus Radiatus Meristem Cell Culture Extract, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Sodium Tocopheryl Phosphate, Hydrolyzed Egg Shell Membrane, Arginine, Sodium PCA, Sodium Lactate, Aspartic Acid, PCA, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Threonine, Proline, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Dihydrocholesteryl Oleate, Phytosteryl Oleate, Cholesteryl Nonanoate, Cholesteryl Butyrate, Dihydrocholesteryl Butyrate, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Tocopherol, Lactobacillus/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Xanthan Gum, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Propanediol, Sodium Chloride, Isomalt, Alumina, Silica, Hydroxyacetophenone, Phenylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, PVP, Phytic Acid, Silver Oxide

This has a gel cream texture. It’s not thin like a typical gel cream nor is it thicker like a creamier style. It’s kind of in between. It does have a bit of a dimethicone silicone texture so it has that slip, and it gives a satin matte finish that’s perfect as a makeup primer if used during the day. It wasn’t enough by itself as a moisturizer for me so I had to layer it under a lotion. I usually applied this, followed with my oil, then sealed with a lotion or cream. I love the plastic pump style bottle and it’s practical (yet also beautiful with that navy sparkle). It has no scent. So even though this has silicone it layered fine with other products and didn’t feel heavy or feel like it clogged my pores. It has hydrators like glycerin, rose flower water, squalane, hemp seed oil, sodium hyaluronate, sodium PCA & soybean sterols.

It also has the antibodies (obviously), Saponaria Pumila Callus Culture Extract (based on a rare flower Saponaria pumila that survived the last ice age in the alps), gotu kola, maritime pine (antioxidant), seaweed, Phaseolus Radiatus Meristem Cell Culture Extract (anti-inflammatory, repairing), natural salicylic acid, Arginine, amino acids & Hydrolyzed Egg Shell Membrane (reduces wrinkles size). I liked this gel cream. It’s quite expensive for a 30 ml bottle. It has some great technologies & plant extracts plus I’m sure the antibodies are not cheap to extract/produce.

The star of the show is the AntiBody Moist Essence Serum. Details per Adsorb:

AntiBody Moist Essence Serum is a total Anti-Aging serum to defend against the visible signs of skin aging. Intensive Natural AntiBody Technology effectively targets lines, wrinkles, dull, discolored and sagging skin.

Directions After cleansing, apply to entire face and neck every morning and every evening. For total care, follow with Adsorb Gel Cream for beautiful hydrated, firmed and toned skin.

My favorite product by any skincare line is always it’s essence or serum. That always tends to be the most concentrated product for yeilding the best results. I also love layering multiple light hydrating layers versus one or two heavier ones. This has the same plastic pump bottle but is a larger size at 40 ml. It has a light hydrating serum texture. It absorbs quickly, is clear and fragrance free. It leaves behind just that refreshing hydrating light serum moisture. This has a lot of the same ingredients as the first two like rose flower water, antibodies (of course), Saponaria Pumila Callus Culture Extract, gotu kola, maritime pine, seaweed, hemp seed oil, squalane, Arginine, Sodium PCA, amino acids & soybean sterols.

The serum has a bunch of other ingredients not in the gel cream like Oligopeptide-6, Tremella Fuciformis Polysaccharide (from silver ear mushroom, has excellent water binding capabilities similar to hyaluronic acid), pomegranate, bilberry, Ubiquinone (CoQ10) & quince seed extract (hydrating). I really wanted to test this well as it’s a new technology. So I did not use a growth factor serum for the majority of the time when I used this (I caved at the end as I had things to test).

At first I will admit I thought this wasn’t doing much for me. I used up the entire bottle then stopped all the Adsorb products I had for almost three weeks. Last week I started using the new essence lotion they just launched. I find that period off of a product after using it for 6 weeks is really when you see that result if it made a difference or not. Basically if your skin looks worse after you stopped a product it’s an easy way to know the product was working for you (the key is to stagger products so you’re not stopping two at once). Then if you add it back in and your skin looks better again then you really know.

That was the case with this Adsorb serum. It kind of worked like a growth factor serum. In short it created a healthy glow in my skin. It just gave it an extra boost of radiance. I also had hardly any skin issues while using this product. Meaning no breakouts even that pesky monthly hormonal one (that’s my usual breakout issue the monthly one, I don’t have any larger scale acne anymore). When I stopped this I got one hormonal breakout which I hadn’t had for a while, at least six weeks. I would be really interested to see what this does on a more acne prone person. Now this wasn’t a game changer in anti-aging for me. It’s hydrating and has lots of great ingredients but it didn’t make my lines or wrinkles go away. So this is more for skin health, less for lines/wrinkles. The good news is you can use retinol with it for those lines, wrinkles, texture & pigmentation issues.

Some of the interesting things about this antibody technology is that they were able to tailor it for specific concerns. Immunoglobulins attach themselves to specific antigens rendering them useless in short (such as specific viruses in an immunization). They tailored these antibodies to pollen allergies, atopic dermatitis & acne breakouts (this is all so fascinating for me). So they targeted the bacteria which is known to incite acne (think staph a well known skin bacteria that causes hordes of issues) and the antibodies help inhibit the bacterial growth helping prevent more outbreaks. There’s research going into the power of using Ostrich antibodies versus other types we use now.

There will be lots of future medical applications for this technology and skincare was kind of a side application of the technology. This is definitely not a skincare line for you if you only do green, natural or vegan skincare. This is going to be for the medical grade skincare lovers. It’s not a cheap line either. I would say the quality is top notch, there’s no questionable ingredients if you avoid alcohol, fragrance and dyes. If you were to try one item from this line grab the AntiBody Moist Essence Serum. That’s the one to put your money into. The gel cream is nice but the serum is the star.
