African Botanics Mineral Cleansing Mask

You all know how much I love African Botanics. The South African eco-luxe brand is one of my favorites. I’ve had the Mineral Cleansing Mask on my radar for a while and I grabbed it once my beloved Omorovicza staple ran out. I haven’t strayed from my Omorovicza for years but if there’s one brand I would give a detox clay mask a try on it would be African Botanics. Details per African Botanics:

The ultimate detoxifying treatment mask that tones, nourishes and refreshes fatigued skin.

Packed with cutting-edge plant stem cell biotechnology, essential minerals and unique botanicals. This clay-based treatment clarifies and revitalises dull, congested skin without irritation or dehydration. Specifically designed to help with skin congestion, redness and uneven skin tone with advanced age defying actives that deliver much needed nutrients, vitamins and minerals while boosting circulation and stimulating renewal.

The antioxidant and omega-rich fusion of glow-inducing Marula, Baobab and African Bush Plants moisturize, strengthen, brighten, firm and refine the skin.

Contains high concentrations of Copper and Magnesium renowned for their skin purifying properties. African White Clay absorbs toxins, impurities and gently clears pores. African Resurrection Plant and Globularia Cordifolia Plant Stem Cells have been clinically shown to help with skin tissue regeneration by increasing the lifespan of skin cells and helping the cell mitochondria produce continuous energy.

Key Benefits

  • Helps reduce pore size and detoxify the skin without stripping.
  • Restores a healthy glow without drying or leaving your skin feeling taut.
  • Minerals help restore skin’s density to regain its firmness, protect cell DNA, plump and stimulate cellular turnover.
  • Soothing Damask Rose, Cape Rose Geranium and Tangerine help balance and revive parched skin.

Directions After cleansing/exfoliating, apply a thin layer to clean skin using fingertips, avoiding the eye area. Relax and allow the mask to work for 5-15 min while enjoying the intoxicating aroma. Add warm water and lightly massage using a circular motion to gently exfoliate. Indulge 2 – 3 times a week depending on your skin’s needs.

I like a good detox mask now and then. I quit using them all the time when I stopped having active breakouts or hormonal acne but I still enjoy one now and then for a detox. So for years I used the Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask because it was one of the only clay masks that actually doesn’t dry me out. I’m really really picky with that on clay or mud style masks. I like ones that don’t dry down so my face doesn’t shrivel up and dry out. A clay mask can still do it’s job even if it doesn’t dry down. So for years I never strayed from Omorovicza as most other masks fell short. I grabbed the African Botanics Mineral Cleansing Mask on a whim when I ran out and it’s the only mask I feel worthy of competition to my old favorite.

This is a clay mask that doesn’t dry down. It has avocado, marula & baobab oils to nourish the skin while the clay purifies and detoxes the skin. This mask also has resurrection plant (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory) & Globularia Cordifolia Plant Stem Cells (heart-leaved globe daisy for soothing). Clay will help clear out pores, reduce and balance oil production plus reduce pore size. This does have a bit of an essential oil scent from the rose and tangerine oils. It’s light and not bothersome. Rose oil is soothing as well. This mask manages to detox and purify my skin while not making it feel dry or tight. It feels refreshed and glowing after. You may notice a little purge after using this especially if you’re more prone to breakouts. That’s normal in general when using a detox style mask.

This mask definitely is good enough to be in my rotation for detox masks. I pretty much compare all clay or detox masks to Omorovicza and African Botanics and if it can’t beat them then I rarely end up using them past one time. If you’re tired of the ‘dry down make your skin feel like a parched desert after using’ clay masks then I suggest you give this one a try. You’ll be left with glowing nourished skin that feels like it been balanced and purified. Minus the dry feeling (if you can’t tell I really hate dry down clay versions).
