bareMinerals barePRO Foundation

I’m not normally a matte, full coverage or powder foundation fan. I like my foundation light and dewy. When bareMinerals sent over a few shades of the barePRO Performance Wear Liquid & Powder Foundations I was slightly afraid but I actually ended up being pleasantly surprised. The foundations themselves are not new but they did add new shades so now each range has 35 shades. The barePRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation is liquid, full coverage and has a soft matte finish. Details per bareMinerals:

We’re redefining performance wear with this new liquid mineral foundation that cares while it covers, improving the appearance of skin texture over time* while blurring pores and imperfections. The 24-hour breathable full coverage is powered by Mineral Lock™ Long-Wear Technology that blends mineral pigments with lipids naturally found in skin to lock in transfer-resistant, color-true coverage in 35 carefully calibrated shades.

The luxuriously creamy liquid contains bamboo stem extract for a naturally matte, soft focus finish, while papaya enzymes gently improve skin’s texture both immediately and over time. I like the slim glass packaging that allows you to easily see the shade. The pump has a nice sleek look to it. The foundation is reasonably priced at $34 plus it’s a clean beauty brand where their products are free of parabens, phthalate, formaldehyde & mineral oil free. They’re also a cruelty free brand. This liquid foundation is medium to full coverage. It’s buildable and doesn’t look cakey. It’s got a nice natural or soft matte finish. So it’s not really dry and powdery looking. It has a moist feel to it all day long while you wear it. I can touch my cheek and it feels moist and stays hydrated without shine as it maintains that semi-matte appearance. It lasts all day long without fading, even in this hot and very humid Texas summer. It is transfer resistant too. You could rub it off if you tried really hard but average wear is fine. This does have a nice lightweight feel on the skin. It doesn’t feel suffocating like some full coverage foundations. It does a pretty good job of blending in to look like skin when you have a good shade match. It didn’t give me any troubles as far as breakouts even while sweating in this 95+ degree humid summer. I don’t know if I would sleep in the foundation as it claims you can.

Overall it has great longevity and holds up without breaking down. If you like a longwear, natural matte, full coverage liquid foundation that doesn’t feel heavy or suffocating you should try this one. I was sent three shades then I got a few from a friend who couldn’t use the shades she was given so I swatched them all for you below. When you wear full coverage foundation you really need to find a good match. So I would definitely try to get into a store to get matched or bareMinerals does have a phone number you can call and chat about a color matching. I noticed they have a custom mixable version of this as well which I think is so cool. I didn’t know they did that.

My best match ended up being Sandalwood 15 which is a medium shade but the description is “light neutral skin with subtle yellow undertones”. Natural 11 was also really close for me so I could use either but Sandalwood blended in just a touch better. A lot of these had a quite warm or yellow undertone for me. I noticed this foundation does set and change colors versus when it’s wet so make sure you actually test it out good first. They got darker and in some cases the yellow tone lightened and felt more neutral. Sandalwood I thought was too golden when wet but once it sets it looks more neutral and blended in really well. In the long run this one won’t get a huge amount of use from me due to it being full coverage. Maybe more in the winter or for a photo shoot. I’m a huge fan of their light & dewy Complexion Rescue Foundation Stick. You can click HERE on their site and look at the foundation shade finder, it gives you better descriptions than on the main page.

Expertly designed for all ethnicities and skin tones, our high-performance pressed powder foundation is available in 35 true-to-you shades and comes in a convenient compact, giving you full coverage foundation on the go with a photo-ready natural matte finish.

This powder foundation has such a nice silky texture. It gives medium to full coverage but I prefer to use it a little more sheer. It’s buildable to a degree but it can get a little gunky in certain spots depending on how heavy you apply. It also depends what moisturizer and primer I layered this over. The more dewy my skincare the more this stuck to my cheek pores if I layered it too heavily. If you let your skincare set a bit this went on smoother as well. I liked really buffing this into the skin with their Core Coverage Foundation Brush. Those two worked together well. This is really nice for a humid summer because it keeps me less oily all day. It has fairly good lasting power, it does last all day but it fades some by the time I get home from work. The fading actually has a nice feel to it, it gets better with time as it melds with your skin.

This one doesn’t look dry or powdery at all. I’m not a fan of the loose power foundations as I tend to apply them too heavily. The nice thing about this pressed version is it’s shimmer free and it’s portable. It comes with a sponge for touch ups during the day. I like this one a ton more than the original two loose versions. Though my mother I know completely adores the loose matte powder one and she’s used nothing else for well over a decade. This pressed version is SPF free which I like. I get my SPF from a separate layer not my foundation. Overall I like the thin silky feel of this powder and it melds pretty well with the skin so it doesn’t look powdery or cakey. It took me a little bit to get the hang of how to apply it as I normally don’t wear powder foundations.

I like how it kept shine at bay all day especially in the summer humidity here but it does make my cheeks really dry by the end of the day. So I prefer this as a short term foundation. It’ll be perfect for going out to the zoo or doing outside activities where I want to be shine free but am able to come back and add some moisture on my cheeks later. If you don’t have dry cheeks this won’t be an issue for you. I ended up with shade Natural 11 as my best match. I noticed these ones ran darker than the liquids. Natural is described as “light neutral skin with subtle pink undertones”. Sandalwood was a bit too golden in the powder format for me. I think if you like pressed foundation you’ll like this one. It’s got a nice buildable medium coverage with a lightweight silky texture. I love the way it gets better as the day goes on.
