Drunk Elephant Hair & Body

Drunk Elephant went and launched a new hair and body line. I’m not normally the type of person who gets all excited over a body and hair launch but it it Drunk Elephant. I had some idea it would be good but I ended up totally obsessed with all of them. I’m not surprised as they teamed up with legend Chris McMillan to create the hair line. The packaging is fun and bright. I love the geometric shaped bottles of the shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion. I thought the plastic might be hard to squeeze but actually they were easy enough for me. All of the products smell very sweet. Like sweet almond oil or extract. If you’ve smelled it you know the scent I’m talking about. It’s not an artificial fragrance nor is it essential oils. It’s just the natural scent of the products. Whether or not you like the sweet scent will be personal preference. As always the products are free of sulfates, silicones, essential oils, fragrance, dyes and drying alcohols. Ingredient details per Sephora.

Kamili Cream Body Cleanser is a slightly creamy but mostly gel textured body wash with mild surfactants, plant oils and amino acids. It foams well for a SLS free formulation. It is gentle and non-drying. I find it lightly hydrating and a total joy to use. It has that sweet almond scent but it’s lighter in this particular product. This has marula, sacha inchi, passion fruit seed, sweet almond, sunflower & soybean oils. It foams well on a loofah but if you use a washcloth it may be low foaming due to the mild surfactants. Low foaming doesn’t mean you won’t be just as clean, it just doesn’t give you that physical satisfaction you’re used to from a high foaming cleanser. This was actually gentle enough I thought about testing it as a face wash. I haven’t tried that yet but I’m sure I will.

Ingredients

-Ultra-Mild Surfactant Blend: A stack of gentle cleansing agents, including coconut-based surfactants rich in fatty acids, that work together to create a rich foam that effectively lifts dirt and other substances from skin without stripping or drying.
-Marula Oil: Super-absorbable oil, high in critical antioxidants and omegas 6 and 9, helps moisturize, nourish, and rejuvenate skin for a youthful-looking glow.
-Sacha Inchi Seed Oil: Extracted from the seeds of the sacha inchi fruit, this oil is used for its potential to moisturize and soothe irritated skin; these benefits are attributed to the high concentration of antioxidant polyphenols, omega 6 (aka linoleic) and omega 3 (linolenic) fatty acids that sacha inchi seed oil contains.

Cocomino Glossing Shampoo is a light hydrating and glossing shampoo as it states. Glossing shampoos tend to leave a slightly glossy finish to the hair. Some leave a lot, some leave a little. This particular glossing shampoo is nice because it’s gentle, smooths and leave that glossy effect on the hair yet it doesn’t coat my hair or leave too much residue behind. Some glossing shampoos leave my hair weighed down from the shine agents they used (ie silicone). This one adds gloss and shine but without any weight. My fine hair loves it. It’s a lightweight color safe shampoo for all hair types that removes product build up. It’s got a coconut amino acid blend to cleanse gently while improving gloss, body & bounce. I fully attest to its ability to clean gently while giving my hair a bouncy soft feel. I love it.

Ingredients

-Coconut Amino Acid Blend: Gentle, fatty acid-rich coconut-based surfactants work together to create a rich foam that effectively lifts dirt, styling products, and other substances away without damaging or stripping color while quick-absorbing amino acids add strength and improved manageability, giving hair a healthier, glossy appearance with visible body and bounce.
-Polyquaternium-10: Lightweight, flexible, and frizz-fighting conditioning agent that bonds to hair between shampoos.
-Polyquaternium-7: Conditioning agent that detangles, smooths, adds shine, and fights frizz.

Cocomino Marula Cream Conditioner is nourishing yet not particularly heavy in texture. Designed for all hair types this conditioner has plant oils and butters to soften and smooth hair. It has marula butter, a coconut amino acid blend (same as shampoo) and mongongo oil. It has a medium weight texture. It’s not the heaviest conditioner by far nor is it the lightest. A little bit could go a long way for some who don’t need much conditioner while you could use more for drier more color processed hair like myself. I will easily use twice as much conditioner to shampoo in general. I love that this one hydrates and softens while leaving my hair bouncy and super soft. I love conditioners that hydrate and nourish with butters and oils versus silicones. It leaves my hair conditioned but not greasy or weighed down. I need to buy another at the Sephora sale to finish my shampoo bottle. The sweet scent is a little higher in the shampoo & conditioner than the body wash.

Wild Marula Tangle Spray was a big surprise love for me as I’m not a huge leave in conditioner spray gal. Normally cause they weigh my hair down and leave it too oily. This spray has marula and sacha inchi oils, amino acids plus a blend of fermented fruit, nut and tea oils that smooth the hair shaft and give an anti-static/anti-frizz benefit. It’s really lightweight actually. I was surprised. It’s a fabulous lightweight leave in conditioning spray that doesn’t weight my hair down nor make it greasy. I think if you want a lightweight or lighter kind of leave in conditioning spray this is for you. It’s not super heavy duty and is easy to work in with other products like wave sprays and such. I love the fine mist it sprays out as well. I would say the sweet scent is pretty prominent in this one but it’s not overwhelming.

Ingredients

-Fermentoil Hair Complex: A blend of fermented nut, fruit, and tea oils that smooths the hair shaft and provides powerful anti-frizz and anti-static benefits (without silicones).
-Marula Oil: Super-absorbable oil, high in critical antioxidants and omegas 6 and 9, helps moisturize, add shine, and smooth the hair shaft.
-Sacha Inchi Seed Oil: Extracted from the seeds of the sacha inchi fruit, this oil is used for its potential to moisturize and soothe irritated skin; these benefits are attributed to the high concentration of antioxidant polyphenols, omega 6 (aka linoleic) and omega 3 (linolenic) fatty acids that sacha inchi seed oil contains; in haircare, sacha inchi oil adds shine and helps offset the damage done by heat styling due to its ability to both coat and partially penetrate the hair shaft.

Sweet Pitti Deodorant Cream is a creamy deodorant. It smells sweet like almond extract and I find the name cute. It’s a very creamy formula and it twists out quick so be careful. A small click is all you need (not what I accidentally clicked out for the photo but it showed the texture well). This deodorant is baking soda and aluminum free. It has mandelic acid, arrowroot powder & shea butter. The shea butter hydrates while mandelic acid deodorizes and actually the arrowroot powder does a really good job at keep the area dry even though this is not listed as an antiperspirant. It feels really wet and hydrating going on but it sinks in really quickly and lasts all day. I actually really like it. It’s one of the better natural deodorants I’ve tried recently.

Ingredients

-Mandelic Acid: Derived from almonds, mandelic acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) that is both water and lipid-soluble, which is a quality that allows it to penetrate and work within the hair follicle; mandelic acid is also an excellent killer of odor-causing bacteria while being milder to skin than glycolic acid (due to its larger molecule size).
-Arrowroot Powder: Super-absorbent powder derived from the roots of the arrowroot plant.
-Shea Butter: A concentrated butter derived from the shea fruit; shea butter has a complex triglyceride composition that gives its characteristic rich, emollient properties and skin-barrier protection.

Water/Aqua/Eau, Mandelic Acid, Maranta Arundinacea Root Powder, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isononyl Isononanoate, Glycerin, Tapioca Starch, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cetearyl Olivate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Olivate, Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil, Schinziophyton Rautanenii Kernel Oil, Sclerotium Gum, Panthenol, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Seed Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Citric Acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Sodium Hydroxide.

Sili Body Lotion is something I figured I would love. No big surprise that I did. It’s a light to medium weight body lotion with a sweet almond scent. The almond scent is pretty strong in this one. I like it but again it’s a personal preference. This body lotion has a nice glossy texture and while I was afraid it would be too much on first use I was pleasantly surprised that it sunk in quickly and left my skin totally hydrated and with no residue or sticky feeling. Totally impressed. It has marula and shea butter, marula oil, ceramides, amino acids, aloe and a few other oils. This was really a nice body lotion as it was the perfect balance of nourishing yet it was so lightweight once it sunk in. The best part is that my skin didn’t dry out 6-8 hours later like it can with other lightweight body lotions. I’m totally obsessed.

T.L.C. Happi Scalp Scrub is such a unique product. It can be used a multitude of ways. Use it as a facial exfoliant, body exfoliant or scalp scrub. It has a medium weight paste texture with a small smooth round scrub style bead in it. It has the 10% AHA/BHA T.L.C. Framboos blend with glycolic, tartaric, lactic and citric acids. It also has marula oil like the rest of the line. The physical exfoliation comes from a plant-derived biodegradable scrub which has a small round smooth texture. The directions are to use this prior to showering. Apply to dry hair directly to scalp and massage. Leave on for ten minutes (or more) then rinse and shampoo and condition. It says you may use one to two times a week. Think of it as a multi-use product. Babyfacial light for the face, an exfoliating body scrub and a scalp scrub that helps reduce itching, breakouts and flaking. It helps remove buildup as well. It’s such a multi-use product that I think many will love. I’m totally lazy and not the best scalp scrub or pre-wash treatment user. I don’t really need a scrub most the time as I don’t use a ton of products in my hair so I will probably go through this slower than others. If you have an itchy or problem scalp this will be a great item for you to try.

Ingredients

-10% T.L.C. Framboos™ AHA Blend: (G) glycolic plus (T) tartaric, (L) lactic, and (C) citric acids specially formulated to rapidly break down and dissolve built-up dead skin cells as well as styling product buildup in minutes.
-Cellulose Acetate: Plant-derived biodegradable scrub agent that is perfectly spherical and provides a gentle physical exfoliation to sweep away the buildup of dead cells and other substances from the scalp; cellulose acetate is an ideal alternative to the environmentally problematic polyethylene beads, the too-soft jojoba beads and the too-abrasive crushed nut shells.
-Marula Oil: Super-absorbable oil, high in critical antioxidants and omegas 6 and 9, helps moisturize, nourish, and rejuvenate skin for a youthful glow.

I was super excited about this launch since I saw its first tease online. I didn’t think I would like all of it as much as I did. Yet I love all of it actually. The scent is a little sweet. I wish there was a sugar based body scrub. But other than that I loved all of it. There was no bad product in the launch. They were all effective and well done. The line is meant for all hair types. I love the unique packaging plus the Sephora sale is right around the corner and the perfect time to try a few new things out from this launch. It’s rare that I love a whole launch from a brand but this was one of the few I really can get into every product. I think they did a great job with it. I have fine wavy color treated hair for reference. I only get oily roots on day two-three after washing. I wash 3x a week on average. Everything was the perfect level of conditioning and cleansing without adding weight. The shampoo & conditioner does make your hair very fluffy and soft. I like to actually alternate it with more heavier glossing products. Otherwise it just gets really fluffy and light. Just keep that in mind if you grab them. The body products cleansed without drying and hydrated without being heavy or sticky. I think everyone will love the scrub as it’s so multi-use. I liked the deodorant, lotion, shampoo and conditioner the most. Though the tangle spray is really nice if you like a light leave in spray. The body wash is really nice as well but it may be on the pricey end for some though it’s in range with similar other products.

*Gifted by brand but all thoughts are my own.
