Earthwise Beauty: Part 2

By now you've undoubtedly seen me mention green beauty brand Earthwise Beauty. I went over a bunch of their products in the Part 1 post HERE. Now it's time to talk about more of the line. So Nap in the Meadow Face Serum is one of those products that took me a while to decide I liked it. This is a super lightweight, aloe based serum with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant herbal extracts. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

Here is an ultra-lightweight aloe-based serum that looks spearmint-y and smells of a spring meadow to some, and of just-picked strawberries to others. It is a dew-consistency almost-liquid that is close to oil-free, but effectively hydrates and improves the appearance of all types of skin. And it makes your toner or mist optional. We recommend using this serum as the first moisturizing step, before a facial oil or oil-based serum.

Benefits Nap in the Meadow delivers a broad range of benefits in a single product: deep hydration, strong anti-inflammatory action, anti-oxidants, anti-aging benefits, refreshing effects, and even some acne reducing, tissue repairing, and sunburn and sun damage repair.

Ingredients

Cold-press whole-leaf Aloe barbadensis leaf juice*, Sambucus nigra (elderberry) fruit extract, Curcuma longa (turmeric) root Supercritical CO2 Select extract*, caprylyl capryl glucoside (naturally derived), Lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil (* and †), Achillea millefolium (yarrow) oil*, Helichrysum italicum (Italian everlasting) oil*, Marticaria recutita (German blue chamomile) oil*, potassium sorbate (natural food-grade preservative), organic Pelargonium graveolens (geranium bourbon) oil, Pelargonium roseum (geranium rose) oil*, Copaifera officinalis (copaiba balsam) resin†, Ferula galbaniflua (galbanum) oil*, xanthan gum, ascorbic acid (vit. C), Rosa woodsii (Wood’s rose) flower essence†, Phlox longifolia (pink phlox) flower essence†, Achillea millefolium (white yarrow) flower essence†, Lupinus argenteus (silvery lupine) flower essence†.

*Certified organic. †Responsibly wildcrafted.

So the texture is super light and it's lightly hydrating, it layers well with everything and never pills. The scent is what took me a while to get used to. It's very potent at first but not in a bad irritating way. It almost reminds me of diluted herbal green vodka a little. The scent dies down fairly quickly, like in about 2 minutes then it has a very almost faint nothing scent on the skin. It's also one of the few products that has lavender oil that I like. I love soothing turmeric, yarrow and German blue chamomile. Plus it has immortelle and balsam resin for anti-inflammatory or healing properties. I would say this is probably one of their best sellers. I like this product in general and have gone through a couple with no problems of it bothering my rosacea from the essential oils. If I was having an active flare up I would probably skip it and come back to it again later. It should work for all skin types due to its light texture. I have rosacea and it's not one of their products I reach for all the time, I have other products I tend to use more from the brand. But I do enjoy it now and then.

Tigress Face Balm is this juicy looking sunny colored face balm. Described as a light balm for acne prone skin. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

Tigress. She has a strong presence. Intense, yet calm and centered. She knows how to wait. Powerful behind a comforting exterior. Wild.

Our first facial balm was created in response to our customers requesting a face balm for acne-prone skin. That was a refreshing idea and a great challenge for Ava, our formula creator, since indeed the green beauty zone abounds in beautiful rich, comforting, beeswax-hued balms that, well, feel too rich for many of us. Some customers find them slow-absorbing or pore-clogging, or find that in a hard-to-describe way, they make the skin not breathe as freely as it does without.

What our many trial runs resulted in was Tigress: a vegan balm that is soft and melts instantly. Tigress is noncomedogenic with built-in acne controls! It is easy to apply just a thin layer due to the balm's fine and loose texture. Tigress is a lightweight (that is, lightweight for a balm, but not as light as a face oil or a moisturizer), healing, deeply penetrating balm that invigorates the skin tissue, heals acne breakouts, reduces acne and blackhead tendencies, balances excessive oil production, and firms skin in the long run. It protects from moisture loss and from the wind and cold.

Ingredients

Cold-press unrefined Garcinia indica (kokum) kernel butter†, cold-press unrefined Virola surinamensis (ucuuba) seed butter†, cold-press unrefined whole-fruit Passiflora edulis (passionfruit) oil*, cold-press unrefined Attalea speciosa (babassu) kernel oil†, cold-press unrefined Pouteria sapota (sapote) kernel oil†, cold-press unrefined Calophyllum inophyllum (tamanu) nut kernel oil*, cold-press unrefined organic Rosa canina (whole-fruit rosehip) oil, cold-press unrefined Coffea (green coffee) bean oil*, tocopherol (vit. E from non-GMO sunflowers), supercritical CO2 select Curcuma longa (turmeric) rhizome extract*, Boswellia carterii (frankincense) oil†, Nardostachys jatamansi (spikenard) oil† (Nepal), Pinus edulis (pinyon pine) oil†, Helichrysum italicum (Italian everlasting) absolute, Usnea (old man's beard) lichen CO2 extract (Helianthus annuus [sunflower] seed oil, polyglyceryl-6 caprylate [emulsifier]‡, polyglyceryl-3 palmitate [emulsifier]‡ and Usnea barbata lichen extract*).

*Certified organic.  †Responsibly wildcrafted. ‡From certified sustainably sourced palm oil.

I love this balm. It has the most gorgeous sunny color and a soft buttery texture. It's so smooth. It has kokum and ucuuba butters plus passionfruit, babassu, rosehip, tamanu and green coffee oils. I love all those oils and butters then add in some turmeric extract and it's total perfection. The balm has a buttery medium weight texture, it's not super rich but it's not super light either. The scent is warm herbal with a hint of fruit and nut. It never felt heavy or broke me out. I've also mixed it with lotions or such to add a bit of extra nourishment. It actually sinks in pretty quickly for me and never feels heavy. I can't speak for it working for acne prone skin but I like it on combo/normal skin. It's a bit heavier than Yasuni balm. The thing I like the most is the buttery soft texture and love the ingredients (I love rosehip, tamanu and coffee oils).

Ambrosia de Cerrado Liquid Moisturizer is an extremely lightweight moisturizer. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

The mysterious Ambrosia do Cerrado Liquid Moisturizer, with an irresistible guava-plus-citrus scent, feels like applying yellow dewdrops that are fully charged with unrefined, whole-food (not isolated or factory-produced “nature identical”) nutrients from the superfood buriti, pequi, and moringa oils.

Our idea was to create a formula with that would be truly nourishing, yet ultra light and breathable at the same time, to deliver lots of moisture without a waxy or overly emollient feel. This format is very appealing for the times when the skin is dehydrated but you don't want oil or an emulsion (lotion or cream) on your face because you prefer a lighter feel. By light, we don’t mean “just a little bit effective”: this moisturizer is highly effective in what it is designed to do; you will be amazed by how much and how quickly your skin can absorb in each single application.

Ingredients

Cold-press whole-leaf Aloe barbadensis leaf juice*, cold-press unrefined Caryocar braziliensis (pequi) fruit oil†, cold-press unrefined Mauritia flexuosa (buriti) fruit oil†, cold-press unrefined Moringa oleifera seed oil† or *, Sambucus nigra (elderberry) fruit extract, tocopherol (vit. E from non-GMO sunflowers), potassium sorbate (natural food-grade preservative), xanthan gum, ascorbic acid (vit. C), citric acid.

*Certified organic. †Responsibly wildcrafted.

This moisturizer is perfect for pretty much everyone. It's so lightweight, like an emulsion. It can be for oily skin to dry skin. If you're dry you're going to layer it. If you're oily you'll be able to use it alone. It's an aloe based moisturizer with pequi, buriti and moringa oils. The best way is to shake this up before use to mix the emulsion, then apply. It has a light fruity oil scent, nothing strong. I have drier skin so I would use this as a serum more than a moisturizer. When I was more oily a few years back I did use this as a day summer moisturizer. This doesn't pill and has a nice light yet nourishing feel. I really enjoy this as a hydrating layer the most now. Ultimately it's like a lightweight antioxidant emulsion. Use it in a way that works for your skin. I love the simplicity of the formula and it's a great way to add oils without the typical facial oil feel.

I've talked about On a Swing Among Trees Serum Mist before. This gorgeous mist is one of my favorites by the brand. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

This product is the outcome of Ava's obsession with ancient precious resins, as there are four of them included here (myrrh, frankincense serrata, frankincense sacra, and copaiba). Myrrh and frankincense are energetically similar: they are both deep-penetrating and dry. Now, dry may not sound like a good thing in a skincare product, but herbal substances that are dry do indeed offer skin benefits: they reduce oiliness and speed drying up of acne breakouts, but they often act in a magically intelligent way, so normal or dry skin does not become drier or stripped off. And keep in mind that these resins offer many other skincare benefits beyond the drying action, which we describe further under Benefits below.

Benefits

This serum-mist is not about hydrating. In fact, it is a dry serum in a liquid format that strives to deliver a very natural skin feel when you or someone else touches your face: the skin is matte, perfectly soft, well-conditioned, springy and alive, and dry—not oily, coated, or sticky from products.

The key ingredients here are for wrinkles, loss of skin firmness or vigor, collagen loss, and damaged or weak skin barrier. One special quality of Swing is that it enlivens skin cells, so the tissue appears firmer and more robust, wrinkled areas appear tauter, and there is an overall increased energy in the facial appearance. In addition, the formula subdues surface inflammation, controls congestion-related hyperpigmentation, and reduces acne, thanks to its antimicrobial ingredients.

Ingredients

Curcuma longa (turmeric) rhizome hydrosol*, Aloe barbadensis leaf juice*, Sodium hyaluronate (plant-derived), plant ceramide complex (ceteareth-25 [emulsifier, 0.18% total amount in formula], glycerin, cetyl alcohol, behenic acid, cholesterol, ceramide NP, ceramide NS, ceramide EOS, ceramide EOP, ceramide AP, caprooyl phytosphingosine, caprooyl sphingosine), Commiphora myrrha (myrrh) oil†, Boswellia (frankincense) serrata extract†, Copaifera officinalis (copaiba balsam) resin†, colloidal silver, Curcuma longa (turmeric) rhizome CO2 extract*, Chamomilla recutita (German chamomile) flower CO2 extract*, Crocus sativus L. (saffron) absolute*, potassium sorbate (natural food-grade preservative), caprylyl capryl glucoside (naturally derived, non-GMO), Citrus limon juice*, Rosa centifolia flower absolute, Ethiopian garnet gem essence, Ethiopian opal gem essence, frankincense sacra resin essence†, and myrrh resin essence†.

*Certified organic. †Responsibly wildcrafted.

I've talked about this mist before. More like a toner/serum/mist all in one. It's unique. I love the turmeric hydrosol as a base versus our standard rose/jasmine/etc. The soothing/anti-inflammatory turmeric is mixed with aloe, sodium hyaluronate, ceramides, glycerin plus myrrh, frankincense and balsam resin. It also has colloidal silver (antibacterial), chamomile and saffron. I love some saffron extract in skincare and food (anti-inflammatory). Honestly this is one of their most amazing formulations to date in my humble opinion. It hydrating yet still light. Great as a treatment mist. The scent is light and warm with that balsam resin scent. The mist spray is fine. It's most definitely one of my favorite products they make. It's so unique and complex, really a nice formulation.

Rosa is a whole fruit rosehip oil. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

As our product range grows, we want to offer exciting options for many needs and sensibilities. We offer lushly scented products and unscented products; complex formulas with many ingredients, and simple formulas with very few ingredients. Still, it felt like a bold move to offer a product with just one ingredient (not counting the minute amounts of antioxidants): rosehip oil. What is unique about high-quality whole-fruit rosehip oil as compared to many other single carrier oils is that it delivers noticeable results and benefits most skin types.

We hope you will appreciate Rosa the way some of us savor and enjoy single-origin chocolate or a single-estate Cabernet. In its purest form, a single ingredient can speak distinctly and inspire, allowing us to focus on its complexity, be it wine, chocolate, coffee, or a highly concentrated and ultra-effective oil.

Our Rosa is a somewhat cloudy, intensely orange oil that is very light, fast-absorbing, and still fragrant with the scent of rosehips and a touch of spice.

Benefits

Rosehips are classified as astringent and cooling in Western herbalism, which points to their wrinkle-reducing and redness-calming properties. The fruit pulp and skin are high in carotenoids (such as beta-carotene and lycopene), which are powerful antioxidants and are also photo-protective (that is, they have been found to protect the skin from photo-damage from sun exposure). Our whole-fruit rosehip oil feels creamy and nonoily, more like an extract-oil than an oil, which makes it appealing to use even on a hot and humid summer day.

Ingredients

Rosa canina (rosehip) fruit oil*, tocopherol (vit. E, from non-GMO sunflowers), Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf extract.

*Certified organic.

This Rosa oil is so simple, whole fruit rosehip oil. Rosehip oil is great for it's natural vitamin C content plus it helps with brightening, pigmentation and inflammation. I have found not all rosehip oils are created equal (texture, oil profile). This is easily the best single blend rosehip oil I have come across. The texture is light yet nourishing. The color is this really nice orange red. It has a light citrus scent. The texture is what makes this oil. If you're looking just for a single blend rosehip oil, this one is amazing.

Passion Eye Serum has become my winter hero. This is a light textured eye oil. Details per Earthwise Beauty:

We held off on developing an eye-area product until we found enough superior-quality unrefined oils and butters to allow us to create an eye serum that delivered major hydrating, firming, and nourishing benefits, yet offered fast absorption. A must was a sublime, fine texture.

We also wanted a product without essential oils or other potentially sensitizing ingredients for the delicate eye area, and definitely nothing heavy to weigh the skin down. Our Passion Eye Serum is a beautiful marriage of amaranth oil (an incredible source of squalene and linoleic acid) and green coffee oil (the number one plant ingredient for puffiness and dark circles) plus a supporting cast of whole-fruit (not just the seeds) rosehip oil, premium grade whole-fruit (not just the seeds) passionfruit oil, seabuckthorn berry CO2 extract, murumuru butter, and more. Zero boring ingredients.

In our tests we found that the amount of moisture the eye area needs varies widely for different people. For some, no matter what the age, lack of firmness is the top concern—and those unwelcome wrinkles—but the skin is definitely not dry, so a rich product would not be absorbed fast enough. Others have surprising dryness around the eyes. We created a hydrating serum that addresses normal to dry eye-area skin types; see directions for use for complementary products to address all your specific needs. Passion Eye Serum purposely creates a very, very thin protective film to prevent moisture loss throughout the day or night.

The scent is very light and comes from the green coffee bean (a light coffee smell mixed with earth and green berries) and murumuru (a brown sugar mixed with fertile soil scent), with a touch of tropical fruitiness from the South American passion (maracuja) fruits.

Benefits

To address puffiness, we employed green coffee bean oil and andiroba oil. For dark under-eye circles: green coffee bean oil and andiroba oil. To firm: seabuckthorn berry, rosehip oil, and andiroba. For skin tissue healing: tamanu. To contribute phytonutrients and vitamins: green coffee oil, amaranth oil, passionfruit oil, rosehip oil, and seabuckthorn berry. For collagen rebuilding: andiroba oil. For brightening: rosehip oil, seabuckthorn berry, and passionfruit oil. To address dryness: Brazil nut oil. To contribute a dose of precious lauric acid: murumuru butter. And to penetrate into deep layers of the skin: amaranth, tamanu, and murumuru.

Ingredients

Cold-press unrefined Amaranthus hypochondriacus (amaranth) seed oil*, organic cold-press unrefined Coffea arabica (green coffee) seed oil, cold-press unrefined Carapa guianensis (andiroba) seed oil†, cold-press unrefined Bertholletia excelsa (Brazil nut) seed oil*, cold-press unrefined Astrocaryum murumuru (murumuru) fruit butter†, cold-press unrefined whole-fruit Passiflora edulis (passionfruit) oil*, cold-press unrefined whole-fruit Rosa canina (rosehip) oil*, Hippophae rhamnoides (seabuckthorn berry) Supercritical CO2 Total extract†, cold-press unrefined Calophyllum Inophyllum (tamanu) nut kernel oil* (India), tocopherol (vit. E from non-GMO sunflowers), ruby gem essence, clear quartz gem essence, lapis lazuli gem essence.

*Certified organic. †Responsibly wildcrafted.

I love an eye oil most especially in the winter. I have severely dry under eyes which get worse with lower humidity. I like an eye oil at night and on the weekends during the day to revitalize and nourish the eye area. This eye oil is one of the lightest I've come across in a while. It has a unique blend of oils I don't always see like amaranth, Brazil nut & andiroba combined with coffee seed (a favorite), passionfruit, rosehip, tamanu oils plus sea buckthorn extract and murumuru butter. It's really hydrating yet super light. It has no essential oils which is a must for the eye area. It's a really large bottle which lasts FOREVER. You're using like a drop at most on the eye area combined. I also like that it's not a rollerball so there's no oil-to-skin contamination if you're into that kind of thing. I would even like this as a facial oil. It's most definitely one of my favorite products they make. The scent is light and earthy/nutty. The texture is light and perfection. It's hydrating and nourishing. If you like eye oils this is easily one of my favorites ever.

  1. Agree with you about Swing and Passion. Now am curious about the Tigress Balm, which I have not tried yet because I love Yasuni. Thanks for your review.
