hMSC Skincare: Overview

This is a review long overdue. hMSC Skincare is a physician & medspa sold brand. They consider themselves clinical strength formulation wise (ultimately just a marketing term, not regulated by the FDA but that's another story). hMSC skincare has three products in their line. They utilize their hMSC technology plus multiple targeting peptides, DNA repair enzymes, amino acids & antioxidants. The design is for you to use all three products together for best results. The core complex to all three products is their hybrid mesenchymal stem cell technology. Details per hMSC:

Each different source (fibroblasts, adipose-derived, placenta, umbilical, etc) produces respectively valuable sets of proteins best reflective of the cell origin and function. hMSC core complex was developed after elaborate lab research, culturing methods, and blend ratios by Ph.D biomedical scientists with expertise in stem cell research and cancer molecular biology who profoundly understand our body’s cellular physiology at a molecular level specifically for use in topical skin care.

hMSC technology's hybrid of human fibroblasts and adipose-derived stem cell conditioned media, (adult, ethically sourced) was generated to consist of the most balanced and proficient assembly of intact protein molecules which has the best rejuvenation capacity to address skin firmness, wrinkle reduction and cell vitality.

Our passage of cells contain naturally occurring tiny nano-lipids (1000 times smaller than cells) called exosomes for efficacious delivery. hMSC’s core technology is then formulated with additional biomimetic targeted peptides (both in vitro and ex vivo clinically tested) & innovative ingredients to further enhance health, state, and structure of the skin.

By now most everyone has heard of stem cell or growth factor serums. There was a time they were less known, but now I they are more mainstream and becoming better understood. Stem cell serums come from donor cells that are then are cultured in a lab. The original donor stem cells are sometimes from decades ago and they still use them to create the new ones. You don't need new donor cells every bottle/batch. Stem cell serums do not actually have stem cells or living cells in them. The cultured cells release proteins which is what you get in these formulations. They can be derived from a variety of original host cell types. Looks like hMSC uses adipose & fibroblasts for their stem cell conditioned media (what you call the final product after cultivation/extraction).

For me I've noticed growth factors are glow giving, firming plus they really help with healthy skin and rejuvenation. Think healthy skin that repairs itself well. Pregnancy glow is also how I think of growth factors. That healthy glow you get while pregnant is what growth factors give me. My skin tends to bounce back quicker and remain more elastic when I use growth factors. Not all growth factor serums are created equal. Some are better than others. Some work for me but not for you. Some work for you but not for me, it can be very personal and specific. Growth factor serums are also expensive to make. So you'll rarely find a good cheap one. It is what it is. Some growth factor serums are more concentrated than others. You just have to try them to know if they work for you. Ultimately I would say don't expect miracles from growth factor serums, keep it realistic. They also take a while to see results, like three months. So you have to stick with it. I've also noticed that more mature skin seems to benefit the most from these types of serums. Doesn't mean you can't use them when you're young if you can afford it, you just might not notice as much now as more mature skin. Though the benefits of using them young could potentially mean healthier skin when you get older.

Serum is the star of the show for me. Details per hMSC:

A silky, fast absorbing Innovative Serum containing 𝒉MSC technology and a potent blend of Anti-Wrinkle Ingredients including Peptides that target skin Elasticity & Collagen Production, Antioxidants and 2 chains of Hyaluronic acid resulting in Smoother, Firmer, more Radiant Skin!

  • Matrixyl 3000®
  • Argireline®

The serum has a light gel serum texture. It absorbs fast, has no discernible scent and isn't sticky (sometimes stem cell serums have a bad scent but for being fragrance free this one smells great). It comes in an airless pump. It's a growth factor serum with copper peptides, anti-aging peptides, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, panthenol and green tea. Really nothing to not like about it. I found this growth factor serum was one of the better ones I have tried so far. It's firming and gives me the healthy glow. I went through two bottles. If you like growth factors it's worth checking out to see if it works for you. This is step one, you apply it first of the three. You also should always apply stem cell serum first after cleansing, closest to the skin for best effectiveness.

This is step number two, apply after Serum. It has a creamy gel serum texture. The scent is more a woody, herbal scent yet still light (no added fragrance, it's just the scent from the natural ingredients). This also has their core complex, different anti-wrinkle peptides, hydrators, antioxidants including vitamin C, retinol and their DNA repairing enzymes. It really is an all in one serum and you don't need anything else. Also comes in an airless pump. I found the retinol part to be gentle (I don't know the percentage) yet the serum was effective overall. I really loved how well rounded it was, it's one of the few that really does have everything you could want.

This antioxidant rich gel cream moisturizer is applied last of the three in a routine. It doesn't have the stem cells but it has different growth factor peptides, anti-aging peptides, hydrators and a plethora of really great anrioxidants. It doesn't get better than having lycopene, astaxanthin, coffee fruit extract, superoxide dismutase, ferulic acid, glutathione and alpha lipoic acid to name a few. Honestly it was one of the best antioxidant gel creams I've used to date, I went through two bottles. It has this nice light scent that's slightly fruity and just a pleasant natural scent. All the hMSC products are fragrance and essential oil free. The scents are from the actual ingredients. This also has hydrators like beta glucan, sea kelp and amino acids. Really just a nice well rounded product. The texture is nice, it never pills and is pretty moisturizing. I had to use it as a layer not as a moisturizer. Oily skin could use it as a moisturizer.

Overall I really really love the hMSC line. It easily goes into the favorites category. The textures are all great, the products are well rounded and effective plus the ingredient lists are superb. In three products you can get all you need and have a minimal routine. It's a pricey line as is all growth factor style products. I feel like Boost could rival everyone's favorite Allies of Skin Peptides and Antioxidants Firming Daily Treatment. Slightly lighter texture, really well done. I would actually put Serum in my top favorites so far from growth factors. It joins AnteAGE and Neocutis as a favorite. I still have more to test this year so stay tuned if that lists changes. When used together I did get better results, I had originally tried the Serum separately. Together these helped firm and rejuvenate my skin also giving me that healthy glow. I was very impressed with the line and if you like clinical or growth factor style skincare then hMSC is one to check out. These were gifted by brand but I would repurchase them.
