Hylamide HA Blur was a product I saw pop up on a blog, plus I've seen Hylamide in Caroline Hirons' blog, so being intrigued I ordered it. I have to admit I thought it was a silicone free primer, but it's really a silica free primer. Per Hylamide's website:
"We have done something really special. It sounds like other things but it is very different. In fact, there is nothing like it.
Blurring products promise to scatter light in many directions to hide pores and lines and create a retouched skin finish. There are two types of blurring products on the market: the ones that really work well but don't get along with makeup well (and also aren't suitable for normal to dry skin) and then there are the blurring products that don't work so well but they are compatible with makeup and all skin types (we call such products mediocre––they make everyone happy but no one super happy).
Instead of relying on older silica technologies, HA Blur uses an unusual new form of Hyaluronic Acid powder base for its blurring approach. Hyaluronic Acid has never been used for this purpose before and renders HA Blur compatible with all makeup and all skin types, while the blurring effect is exceptional. In fact, it's so compatible with makeup that you can apply under or over foundation, or mix it with any liquid foundation for an ultra-high-definition skin finish."
The retail is $19 for 30 ml. Which is not bad. Their site has free shipping as well. I was totally intrigued by my original thought of a silicone free primer that used fragments of hyaluronic acid instead. But what it is, is a primer that uses hyaluronic acid fragments to blur instead of silica. This is a thick clear primer. It's thick, but it feels less greasy than Smashbox's primer, which is my original chocked full of silicones primer I like to reference. This Hylamide HA Blur is more moisturizing, while thick and heavy like a silicone primer, it has a feeling of moisture about it that's not greasy feeling. It is however, full of silicones. It didn't clog my pores or break me out like the usual thick silicone primers do. It is heavy feeling and can make me feel greasier than if I don't use it.
Below I rubbed the HA Blur into the right side of my hand and you can see it does really blur the imperfections and pores away. It's cheap, not as greasy as usual silicone primers. It's heavier than a fair amount of primers and could be too greasy for some skin types or depending on your general preference. Overall, it's a good purchase to play with. You can use it for special occasions for flawless skin. I'm not sure I would use it everyday, more for special occasions.
