Krave The Beet Shield

So I bought this sunscreen from Krave Beauty when it launched late last year and then it subsequently sat in my drawer for a bit because I wanted to use up an almost expiring Dr. Jart+ one. I pulled The Beet Shield out three weeks ago and I’ve just been in love with it. Details per Krave Beauty:

A gentle, antioxidant-rich day fluid that protects your skin from harsh environmental stressors. The Beet Shield is a lightweight, non-white cast leaving formula that’s charged with beet root extract and antioxidants to fight against the free radicals so you don’t turn beet-red.

*This is the same formula as KraveBeauty Beet The Sun SPF 50+ PA++++ that’s available in Korea

Directions *Daytime use only* Monday through Sunday, every morning. Apply a generous amount evenly onto face, neck, and chest. The Beet Shield comes in as the LAST STEP of your skincare routine, after your moisturizer. Apply at least 15 minutes before heading outdoors and reapply as needed.

Pro tip: You can totally ditch a makeup primer when using The Beet Shield.

Key Nutrients:

Beetroot extract An underrated yet amazingly antioxidant-rich vegetable, the beetroot holds skin enhancing properties like preventing signs of aging, reducing pigmentation and blemishes and moisturization! A true underdog superfood.

Allantoin Soothes skin and relieves skin irritation. This is an absolutely wonderful ingredient which brings both moisturizing and soothing relief to a sensitive, inflamed skin.

Vitamin C, Resveratrol, EGCG This powerful tag team of antioxidants is proven to shield skin against external stressors and neutralize free radicals.

*Alcohol, really?!

In order to ensure that the product performs to its highest degree, we have carefully chosen to include ethanol in our formulation, which may be concerning to some, but let us explain. Ethanol serves many purposes in skin care formulation. We use it to stabilize the UV filters, create a lightweight consistency and as a solvent in our formulation.

It was not used as a mattifying ingredient to dry out your skin, in fact, the formula feels hydrating while leaving your skin a healthy sheen. One thing you can be sure of is that there is nothing in this product that isn’t absolutely necessary or absolutely approved for consumption.

We even tested the final formula and got a result that we had NO irritation on a small test group. (The clinical trial was done by Global Medical Research Center that follows Frosch & Kligman and The Cosmetic Toiletry, and Fragrance Association (CTFA) guideline)

However, if you are someone who’s suffering from rosacea, or severe skin condition we do not recommend that you use The Beet Shield and consult with your healthcare provider before doing so.

So The Beet Shield is a sunscreen. Due to the US laws and the need for the FDA to regulate new chemical filters as drugs in a long drawn out process this was unable to be marketed as a sunscreen in the US right now. As we all know the FDA and US sunscreen is terribly behind the times in comparison to Asian and European sunscreens. Both European and Asian sunscreen markets are way more advanced and have better textures and filters than we do here. We’re like twenty years behind. The Beet Shield is the same thing as the Korean version Beet the Sun which is an SPF 50.

The packaging is so cute. I love the little bottles like this as they’re so portable. This is a fluid lotion textured sunscreen. It’s not the thinnest or lightest fluid texture there is but it’s not heavy by any means. This is a chemical or non-mineral sunscreen. It has no white cast. It actually doubles as a foundation primer as well. The silicone texture is light. It’s just enough to help this spread nicely but it’s not heavy feeling. That is also what makes this a nice primer. I experienced no breakouts nor heavy, greasy feeling from this like I do from some silicones. It’s very light feeling.

I didn’t find the alcohol in this sunscreen drying at all. It’s usually hit or miss for me on sunscreens with alcohol. Honestly if I didn’t read the ingredient list I wouldn’t know there’s alcohol in this one. It’s got a nice hydrating feel but it’s never greasy. I’ve really enjoyed this one as a cooler weather sunscreen because it’s not drying. It’s a little more hydrating than my usual summer gel lotion sunscreens so this will be more of a cool weather sunscreen for me. I’ll probably switch back to my gel lotion in the height of the summer but I will definitely be repurchasing this one. It’s really quite good. I love the fluid texture, no white cast and non-drying feel. Plus I enjoy it’s soothing & antioxidant benefits. Krave Beauty is a brand to keep an eye on, they’re affordable with well done formulations. They’re close to launching a new product as well. Have you tried Krave Beauty yet?
