Time to talk about another NIOD product. Non-Acid Acid Precursor 15% is a unique product as is most of Deciem's NIOD line. NAAP is an alternative to traditional acid products for exfoliation. Details per NIOD:
NAAP is a non-acidic alternative to acid-based epidermal resurfacing. Instead of using direct acids like AHA/BHA or retinoids that are common in skincare, NAAP uses fermentation bio-derivatives and amino isolates that act as precursors to skin-compatible acids, encouraging visible radiance and visible surface regularity without the redness and inflammation associated with acids. NAAP was found non-irritating in an independent Single 48-hr Patch Test.
Benefits/Technology
- A suspension of probiotic bacteria purified through lysis acts as a precursor of skin-compatible natural acids.
- Two forms of amino isolates mimic the visible surface-regularizing action of retinoids without any presence of retinoids or related acids.
- A bio-ferment oligopeptide offers better exfoliation than alpha hydroxyl acids without irritation or inflammation.
- A highly-purified natural levomenol offers surface barrier support, hydration and comfort.
- A marine-derived exopolysaccharide increases water-retention capacity—essential with enhanced skin turnover.
Directions Apply a few drops at bedtime to the face avoiding the immediate eye areas. If used as part of a NIOD regimen, apply after CAIS and MMHC but before HV. If used along with ELAN, apply after ELAN. If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised.
This serum has a glossy creamy gel serum texture. It has no discernible scent. It's a little on the thicker side and I feel it would be better served with a pump like Survival 0 versus the dropper. The product inside is a total gem. I won't even begin to get into their technology because they say it better than I can. Basically it's using peptides, bio-derivatives like skin friendly bacteria and amino acids to act like a precursor to acids. These precursors they picked act like acids on the skin without using traditional acids. They have a similar effect is the ultimate end point. Minus the irritation. It's utterly brilliant to be honest.
I'm not sure why I didn't try this when it launched. Maybe because I was so obsessed with the traditional acids back then. I wanted the immediate effects. NAAP is more the slow and steady approach. It's not going to give you that immediate effect like a traditional acid, but over time it made my skin soft, congestion free, I didn't have any visible sebaceous filaments in my nose, it worked like a gentle acid for me. Giving just an overall radiance or soft glow. It was enough to help with the things I want from an acid as far as surface texture and basic tone. I don't know that I would say this is strong enough to work on big discolorations like melasma or sun spots. It also doesn't mention anything like being able to help stimulate collagen production like glycolic acid so there might be some things that acids can do that this can't.
However, I feel for sensitive skin that cannot tolerate acids this is perfect for you. I was able to use this everyday without irritation whatsoever. During a time when masks have utterly crushed my ability to use acids (my rosacea is exacerbated due to mask irritation) this was a lifesaver. I use traditional acids once a week right now (I used to use them 3-4x/week or more) and supplement with NAAP. It can be hard to find right now, besides the Deciem site check Beauty Bay, Selfridges, Lookfantastic, Feelunique some of them do have stock right now. I would 100% repurchase and it again solidifies why NIOD is one of my favorite brands.
