Rare Beauty: Overview

Rare Beauty just launched at Sephora. The line is created by Selena Gomez. The brand has very mixed reviews so far online. Some either really loved it or were kind of not interested. I thought the prices were good especially for what you get size wise. I was drawn to the Positive Light Liquid Luminizer the most. This has a light fluid gel like texture. It’s buildable and sets down a touch. It stays hydrating but it’s not glossy or oily on the skin. It has a comfortable feel while wearing and gives a soft shimmering finish. It’s not glittery and really has this nice luminous sheen. I grabbed Mesmerize a pink champagne and Transcend a rose gold. They have a jumbo sponge tip applicator. I use the wand to apply a bit to my hand then apply. The wand picks up quite a bit of product. The packaging is plastic with a matte soft pink graphic shape handle. The product has no discernable scent.

I love the luminous sheen this gives. It’s natural and subtle but can be built up a degree. This isn’t a really pigmented highlighter, it’s on the sheer to light end. It doesn’t last all day on me, I get maybe 4-6 hours then it fades fairly quickly. I actually ended up liking this the most as an overall luminizer. I wore it under foundation over my whole face. It worked really well for that. It adds a nice luminosity to the skin. You could mix it into foundation as well. I prefer Mesmerize of the two. It works the best for my skin tone. I think if you like a glowy overall radiance style product you’ll like this. It’s strong point is not as a pigmented, long wear liquid highlighter.

The With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm was my other purchase. Thankful is a rosy mauve nude with no shimmer. It’s more brown than I anticipated as well. It has the same matte pale pink packaging but with a semi-circle shape. It has more of a sheer lipstick feel than a balm. It’s not extremely glossy or as moisturizing as a balm. I like the slim look. Sadly the magnetic closure of the tube is not strong at all which I heard was a major complaint. This could pop open in a purse easily. It barely sits together to stay closed. I would not try any more shades from this product until they fix the packaging. This one was the miss of the bunch for me. I didn’t have any desire to try the foundation due to the more medium to full coverage finish (not me anymore) or the concealer (not a liquid person). The blushes oddly didn’t have any nudes they’re all brighter shades. If you like bright colorful shades I hear they’re good. I also skipped the matte liquid lipsticks as by now you all know I hate matte liquid lipsticks. Nothing else really called out to me from the line as must haves. Did you pick anything up from the Rare Beauty launch?
