YOU Skincare is a new brand to me. I discovered this small indie brand last year on Instagram. If you don't follow the #skincarecommunity on Instagram you should. It's a great place to discover new brands. YOU was created by Amy Le a skincare addict and lab scientist. She created the line after her hormonal acne started. I know the lines Clarifying Glow Serum is very popular and helpful if you have blemish prone skin. As I do not have blemish prone skin I grabbed the Essential Hydration Serum. Details per YOU Skincare:
Hydration is essential for optimal skin health. Our Essential Hydration Serum is an intensely hydrating treatment that soothes dehydrated skin. It combines hyaluronic acid, provitamin B5, peptides, and many extracts such as mushroom, prickly pear, Amla, and cucumber to help replenish your skin with the lost nutrients it needs to become and stay healthy. Hyaluronic acid and sodium lactate are the top two moisturizing ingredients which are included in our advanced formula. They will bind moisture to the skin to give you long-lasting hydration all day. Essential Hydration Serum can be used alone or combined with other serums or moisturizers. YOU Skincare’s Essential Hydration Serum does not contain fragrances or essential oils.
Essential Hydration Serum is about more than just hydration! It's an ultra calming serum!
Best for All skin types, especially acneic, dehydrated, and barrier-compromised skin. Also helps skin suffering from overuse of acids and tretinoin.
How to use For use after our Moisture Replenishing Essence. Apply 1-2 pumps to the entire face and neck. Avoid the eye area. If using in the morning, apply after YOU Skincare Vitamin C Antioxidant Serum. If using at night with a retinol product, apply at least 10 minutes after retinol. Always patch test before use. Stop immediately if any irritation occurs.
This comes packaged in a black glass bottle with a pump. Love it. The serum is a thicker than water yet still thin in texture. The color of the serum is clear and is has a slightly musty scent from the mushroom content. It's almost fragrance free. I love the slippery hydrating texture. It glides with ease onto the skin yet is thin enough to be absorbed quickly. This layers easily with any product.
This serum contains aloe which hydrates and soothes. Lacotbacillus is a probiotic. I love that it's fermented with Reishi & Shitake mushrooms. Reishi is a medicinal mushroom with a high content of polysaccharides. Polysaccharides help with the skins natural ability to hold and retain water. This is part of your skin ability to renew and repair itself. These mushrooms also help with inflammation, free radical damage & wrinkles. Reishi mushrooms are an anti-aging power house. Shitake mushrooms are also high in antioxidants and help with inflammation. They are rich in kojic acid, a natural skin lightener & antioxidant L-ergothioneine which helps prevent cell breakdown and exfoliate the skin. Got to love mushrooms even more.
DimethylSulfone (DSM) is also known as MSM. MSM is a sulfur compound found naturally in our bodies and some plants. You can take MSM as a supplement for joint health and it touts other uses and claims. It’s also been talked about as the beauty mineral to help with anti-aging and skin health. It does this by supporting collagen production and health, as well as being anti-inflammatory. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 or argireline is a peptide for wrinkle reduction.
Prickly Pear is very high in antioxidants, it also soothes and calms the skin. It's one of my favorite oils and ingredients in skincare. Alma or Indian Gooseberry is high in vitamin C, tannins and polyphenols. It's high in antioxidants, has astringent & antimicrobial properties as well an anti-inflammatory. Tannins are natural astringents. They remove oil from the pores and can tighten them without drying your skin out. Tanins are also antimicrobial. I always love cucumber fruit extract as it's soothing and smells great. Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 is a peptide to increase firmness of the skin.
Sodium hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid. They are not the same thing. Sodium hyaluronate has an ultra low molecular weight that is able to penetrate the dermis to be absorbed unlike the larger version hyaluronic acid. The dermis layer of the skin is about 70% water. It also uses half of your body's natural hyaluronic acid allotment. The amount of hyaluronic acid found naturally in the body decreases with age. So adding some sodium hyaluronate is hydrating considering it can penetrate the dermis.
This is not just a typical hydrating serum. It's a well rounded anti-aging hydrating serum. You have soothing and hydrating ingredients, natural antimicrobials, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory ingredients, peptides, natural tannins & MSM. It's very well done as well as affordable at $56 for an ounce. It's hydrating, soothing and gave my skin a healthy happy boost. It did more than just hydrate.
Those who love Jordan Samuel Skin Hydrate Facial Serum would love this too. I would 100% recommend as well as buy this again. On my wish list currently is YOU Skincare Barrier Repair Cleansing Balm, Vitamin C Antioxidant Serum & Moisture Replenishing Mist. The mist is slightly slippery and hydrating (I tried a sample it's quite good). I just found out there's a new serum coming soon that sounds amazing as well. I see good things for this brand in the future.
