SkinCeuticals Tripeptide-R Neck Repair

Let’s chat about another neck product. I’ve been trying to expand my horizons and try other neck products out there. I do prefer a dedicated neck product because it makes my life easy and I like lighter textures on my neck than my face. I used to do the whole “take it down to the tits” and skip any kind of separate or dedicated neck product, but as I got dryer and started using more heavy creams including occlusives I realized I had to switch it up as that rule would no longer work. I don’t pull all the same products I use on my face down to the neck (such as gel creams, facial oils, heavy creams, occlusives). Some may find their neck is more sensitive to actives like vitamin C and retinoids but in my case it’s the opposite. My neck craves weekly exfoliation (gently) or it gets way too congested. I need light products only and I tend to prefer silky ones with a nice peptide blend. As my neck is not sensitive I tend to just pull down my facial retinoid when I use it on my face, so normally I do retinoid free neck creams. SkinCeuticals sent this new Tripeptide-R Neck Repair over so I figured I would give it a go. Details per SkinCeuticals:

A daily retinol cream specifically formulated for the neck, Tripeptide-R Neck Repair is designed to target early to advanced signs of neck aging, including lines and wrinkles due to repetitive movements from looking down at mobile devices. Tripeptide-R Neck Repair is specifically formulated for delicate neck skin, is appropriate for daily use, and complements professional treatments.

Directions

When first using Tripeptide-R Neck Repair, apply 1-2 pumps twice a week from décolleté to jawline by massaging the product in an upward motion. Slowly increase use to every other night and if tolerated, increase use to nightly, then twice daily, or as advised by a skincare professional. Retinol may increase photosensitivity. Always use a high-protection, broad spectrum sunscreen when using this product.

Pair usage with a hydrating moisturizer such as Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 as needed to help replenish lipids while acclimating skin to retinol usage.

Neck Vs. Face
Different Responses To Aging

Neck skin is different than facial skin, with a thinner and more delicate dermal layer. With fewer lipids than skin on the face, the neck’s skin barrier can weaken as early as age 30. These properties, combined with the neck’s constant movement, can lead to wrinkles that are up to five times deeper than on the face. The combination of skin laxity and crepiness – plus thin, fragile skin similar to the eye area – makes neck aging particularly difficult to treat.Tripeptide-R Neck Repair is a high-performance retinol cream that targets early to advanced signs of visible neck aging. This treatment is specifically formulated for the neck combining a hydrating delivery system with a tri-functional corrective technology composed of 0.2% pure retinol, 2.5% tripeptide concentrate, and 5.0% glaucine complex to help ensure it delivers improvement on visible signs of aging.

Key Ingredients:

  • 0.2% Pure Retinol A derivative of vitamin A, this powerful molecule promotes cell turnover to help improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration. It also proven to help minimize blemishes and refine the appearance of pores.
  • 5.0% Glaucine Complex Alkaloid derived from the yellow poppy seed plant supports skin’s resistance to visible neck aging.
  • 2.5% Tripeptide Concentrate A blend of powerful peptides helps reduce the look of fine lines and improves the appearance of firmness.

The texture is a medium weight cream, it feels pretty lipid rich and isn’t as light and silky as some of my favorite neck creams. The suggestion is to start off slow, which I did and work up to 2x a day for the neck cream. I personally didn’t find it irritating at all. I heard some found the product irritating. I was on my happy way using it twice a day. Honestly the only issue I had with the texture was it was actually too lipid rich for my neck, I got congested really easy when I used it twice a day. So I ended up backing down to once a day at night. I saw some reviews mention it was too dry for them and the brand directions actually say to apply Triple Lipid over this. I can’t even fathom wearing Triple Lipid over this, my neck is having a congestion freak out just thinking about it. It’s funny as I think the neck is one of those very diverse areas of the body. I’m way more sensitive on my face and yet for others it’s the total opposite.

There is a good herbal scent to this and it does have an essential oil blend with lavender, rosemary and peppermint. I find it odd they mention fragrance free in the benefits section but know it’s pretty well scented. On my face it would be unhappy, on my neck didn’t bother me at all. I found this doesn’t pill, it’s pretty hydrating (for me) and as I said borderline too lipid rich for my neck. It was easy to use, I like the frosted glass pump bottle and the product lasted quite a long time. As this does have retinol I had to remember to not pull my face one down when using this. This also has a peptide blend and this glaucine complex. Honestly I had never heard of glaucine, seems it’s an extract from yellow poppy that per SkinCeuticals has been ‘shown to inhibit the enzymes that compromise the supportive proteins
that are responsible for healthy- and youthful-looking skin’.

I thought this product did fine reducing the look of the depth of neck wrinkles and the skin was smoother and firmer. I did get better results the weeks I tried twice a day but the congestion was too much and not worth it. I experienced no irritation at all from using this. I probably wouldn’t put it in my top favorites due to the heavy textural nature of the product. I really prefer a lighter more silky lotion almost. I thought it was effective but it really was the texture that killed this one for me. I think if you’re on the grand quest of trying every ‘medical grade’ neck cream it’s worth trying. Have you tried this one?
