I've always been curious about the airbrush foundations but I know I would never take the time to actually do it right everyday. With the reformulation it no longer needs to be airbrush only. Now you can apply this foundation by hand or brush or still use it with the airbrush. The Round Blending Brush is a medium synthetic round brush for foundation. It's super soft and worked well, no streaks. I received the Brilliant Glow in Medium to Deep which is an illuminating primer. It's a slightly warm rose gold beige shimmering fluid. This is super lightweight and easy to apply with the brush. It gives a hint of glow, blurs imperfections and makes a good base for the foundation. This is silicone free so it's really just a highlighting fluid. Just could also mix this with foundation or use on top for added radiance.
All the new foundations come in 1 oz plastic squeeze bottles while the airbrush ready ones are still available in pods. The texture of the foundation is very light. It's watery, fluid in texture and the pigment separates from the fluid you must shake it very well before every application. It is able to be layered. You can build this up in some areas but you won't get full coverage out of it. Overall, you're going to get light to medium coverage out of this. It looks very natural and has a satin finish. This foundation has fairly good lasting power actually. I get about 8 hours out of it before it starts to fade. It almost has a slight gel texture. So it's not oily or heavy at all. It looks like skin and this will ultimately be great for a more combo to oily skin type but drier skins could apply this over a touch of facial oil to stay hydrated. If you like light coverage foundation with a more satin finish and thin texture you'll probably like this.
There are 24 shades in the foundation range. It feels evenly spaced with just as many light, medium and deeper skin tones included. Oddly with that many shades I had a really hard time finding a good match. I tried every shade between 3.5 and 6.5. I'm normally a borderline medium to light medium skin tone. If I had to choose between warm and cool I would pick warm, but I'm really more neutral with some olive undertones. It's actually pretty hard for me to find good matches as a light medium olive toned beige hardly exists in most ranges. Most shades tend to be too yellow or orange/warm for me. The shades that are olive and more neutral tend to be a more solid medium in most brands and too deep in depth. A lot of the shades from this range tend to run yellow or very warm.
I had to mix two shades to get an OK match. 6.5 Olive Nude is the perfect shade for me in general but it's too deep so I had to lighten it. I loved the depth of 5 & 6 but they were too warm for me and made me look a bit too orange or tan. I had a hard time picking which to lighten it with as a lot of the shades added too much yellow or orange. I settled on mixing 6.5 Olive Nude with 4.5 Bisque as my best match. I actually really hate having to mix two shades to get the right one. I'm lazy and I want the right shade in one bottle. I know a lot of people like to mix for a custom fit.
There are a few pale shades that seem very pink but overall the line is very yellow or warm with orange tones. So I love the product but wish there were some more neutral shades in there. They need a true neutral beige that's the same depth as 5 Beige or 4 Nude. That would fit a lot of people. The light coverage and gel texture will be perfect next summer. I got it late in the summer this year so I didn't get to really go for it in the humid summer. I imagine it will be great in those humid hot months here. Make sure you stay tuned to my Instagram page tomorrow as I will be giving away all the shades minus 4.5 and 6.5.
