Tops 3: Face Balms

In the winter I absolutely adore a face balm at night. There’s something so soothing and nourishing about one. I went through a big face balm phase the last few years and typically replaced a night cream with a balm every night so I was using a ton of them. Then this last winter was so mild I kind of dropped the number I had to just a couple. I realized that there was actually only two balms that I considered my all time favorites. I always call this my Top 3 and sometimes it goes over, and sometimes it goes under. Face balms are definitely one of the things that green beauty does best. They may not be for everyone, but if you like one I reach for these two all the time.

I had always been curious about May Lindstrom Blue Cocoon but couldn’t bring myself to splurge on it. Then it finally came in a Caroline Hirons x Cult Beauty limited edition box. It was finally mine and I fell in love. Blue Cocoon has been in my arsenal ever since. This balm has a lighter weight texture that melts right down either in the palms or on the face. It smells divine and is truly relaxing. It’s one of those aromatic balms that manages to soothe and relax as a ritualistic experience beyond just using a balm and nourishing your face. Blue Cocoon is a way to have a full skin care experience. It has soothing and anti-inflammatory blue tansy which gives this it’s main aroma and color. Blue tansy manages to soothe my skin overnight. Every single time.

The balm does have shea and cacao butters plus other essential oils. Full review HERE. I did buy the special gold plated spoon that May Lindstrom sells to go with it. Don’t need it, but it sure is pretty. Together they make a nice pleasurable ritual out of any night skincare routine. Sometimes that moment to yourself is truly the best. Definitely a repurchase and I’m on pot number two.

As sometimes I don’t always want essential oils I thought about one of my other favorite balms by Earthwise Beauty. Yasuni Face Balm is an essential oil free face balm with green coffee oil, cupuaçu, kokum, bacuri & tucuma butters plus several fruit oils and marula. It’s a hard textured balm but it melts into a thin liquid much like Blue Cocoon once in your hands. It’s lightweight yet nourishing. It has some enzymatic action on the skin from the antioxidant rich fruit oils. Overall it’s essential oil free so it’s a great balm to try if you want to avoid those. I really like this one for it’s antioxidant rich ingredients plus the lightweight texture. Full review HERE. I actually am on jar number two of this as well.

There are a lot of other balms I really enjoy using these are just my two favorites. They’re the most repurchased and I love their light yet nourishing textures. Neither has ever broken me out. I like have one to soothe and calm and one for general use. One has essential oils, one does not. I do tend to enjoy Earthwise Beauty Tigress with its softer texture (it’s great to mix as well), Lepaar Luminous Beauty Balm for a richer more nourishing balm yet with a melty balm texture and Lovinah Goddess Glow has a light soft texture and is more a repairing and anti-aging balm.

*Earthwise Beauty was gifted though I did buy my first jar. All thoughts are my own.
