Westman Atelier: Part 2

Westman Atelier has been one of my favorite luxury clean beauty makeup brands for the last year. I think they’re finally starting to get more recognition for their really great textures and formulations as of late. Their luxury prices can make them unobtainable for some, but their products are really quite nice if you decide to grab an item. In my original post HERE I went over the foundation, cream blush and original highlighter. They are all still in frequent rotation for me. On round two I thought I would talk about the mascara, new shade of highlighter, lip palette and new eye pods. The Eye Love You Mascara is volumizing, defining and it lightly curls. The packaging is the ultimate luxury for a mascara. It’s weighty, luxe and has a nice brass and black look to it. I love that this formula doesn’t flake, it’s got a nice dark rich black color and it builds easily without clumping. I also like a nice volumizing formula that separates and defines the lashes well plus a nice non-rubber style brush. I’m not a fan of the rubber brushes, I like a good OG teddy bear style brush. That’s usually all I’m looking for in a mascara. I would repurchase despite the hefty price tag, it was quite nice. I wish the case was refillable however.

There’s a new Super Loaded Tinted Highlight in Peau de Rose which is a shimmering petal pink. I love the creamy texture of this product and it’s in a very luxe and weighty case. It has a light creamy texture that has a satin finish. It’s light & buildable while never being too emollient or greasy feeling. It stays puts for about eight hours. I thought this one was going to be too sparkly as it has silver micro glitter in it. Y’all know how I feel about micro glitter (not a fan). The original shade also doesn’t have any micro glitter so it wasn’t what I was expecting. That being said the glitter is actually less noticeable that I thought it would be once applied on the skin. So I was able to wear it. Like all the other Super Loaded Tinted Highlight shades it’s pretty dark and will more likely to be a blush on fair skin tones. It did work as a highlighter for me whereas the original Peau de Peche is more a blush. This one could go either way between blush or highlight depending on how light or dark your skin is. I like this one but Peau de Peche is better for me. I’d love to see a nice pink champagne in this product.

The Lip Suede compact is pure luxury. A creamy compact with four richly pigmented creamy shades. The red weighty luxury case is very nice. It has a fuchsia, brick, tomato red and warm plum. You can mix them in any way shape or form for a custom shade. It has a hydrating matte satin kind of finish. I’m not the best in fushia kinds of shades (they just don’t work on me) so this wasn’t my best range of colors. But the formula was really great. Nourishing and not drying while being richly pigmented and with a comfort satin matte finish. I would love this in a nice nude shade range palette. Maybe with a shimmering pink bronze, nude pink, honeyed nude and neutral rose nude. If you like brights you’ll love this palette.

The Eye Pods are the newest addition to the line. I grabbed the Les Jours trio. This is the cutest tiny trio of cream-powder hybrid eyeshadows. The pods are actually quite tiny and they’re magnetic. So they stick together in your drawer as a row of shades. I like that they have different colors of packaging. They have a unique cream-powder hybrid formula. It’s a harder formula so you need a nice stiff brush to pick up the color or use a finger. The pots are quite small so using a finger is actually not the easiest. I love using my Sonia G Builder Two as it works quite well with this formula and pot size. That brush does stiff cream shadows with ease. I love that this cream powder formula lasts most the day without creasing or fading. Even in high heat & humidity. It’s not crease proof as I do get a little creasing after about 6-8 hours but that’s far better than the majority of cream eyeshadows out there claiming to be crease proof. These are pigmented enough and buildable but you do have to work pretty good to get them on the lid seamlessly and blending them takes work as they are so dry. I think a finger would be the best applicator for them but as the pot opening is so tiny a finger is not actually the easiest to use. The pots are more narrow and deep versus flat and wide.

There was two sets of shades: a nude brown and a more maroon/black set. The Les Jours trio has a shimmering stark white, shimmering light warm golden tan and a shimmering deep mahogany/espresso brown. I’m not a fan of the stark white shade as white looks terrible on me so I actually never used it nor swatched it. I would prefer the vanilla shade of the other set which is why I wish these were sold as singles. Bot sets have a very light highlight only shade which honestly I could skip, I prefer a less pale shade. Granted I haven’t seen Vanilla but the stark white is just too pale for many. The Les Nuits set has only a deep burgundy and black so it’s not really that wearable for many. It’s a dramatic looking shade trio. I’m guessing that’s why that one is in stock while Les Jours is sold out everywhere. Les Jours is more neutral and wearable. The mid tone shade is fairly light on the lid actually and less mid-tone but it works. I like blending those two for a more mid range kind of shade. Overall I liked the formula but I wish the pots were wider and the shades were more wearable. I’d love to see them expand it into singles with a more diverse and more mid tone range. This one felt very pale or deep in general.

Ultimately the foundation (dewy, skin like), mascara (volumizing, defining), blush sticks (creamy, satin) and original Peau de Peche Super Loaded Tinted Highlight (gives the best sun burnt glow) remain my favorites from the brand. I really need to get the bronzer though as I hear it’s fabulous.
