YINA: Revamp & Overview

5YINA was revamped into YINA. You’ve likely seen me talk about 5YINA over the years. I love their revamp. The packaging is so much more luxe and brilliant looking. I like the slight name change as well. YINA was founded by Angela & Ervina as a vision to share wellness rituals inspired by Chinese Medicine. Ervina is a registered TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) dermatologist. Angela is an herbalist who heads YINA’s product development and operations. I started out by dabbling in the brand with a facial oil sampler at least five years ago. Since then I’ve gotten to try more and more especially as the brand expanded its offerings. It started off as a seasonal line with four oils, four mists plus the Bioadaptive cleanser and biocellulose mask. Now it has four oils, the same cleanser and biocellulose mask, one mist, a mask, decolletage treatment and body treatment. There is a new cream which I do not have yet, it’s on its way. More on that another day.

Let’s start with the Bioadaptive Cleanser. This is a creamy cleanser. Think lightweight, detox style cleanser with antioxidants, clay and herbal extracts. It has a light citrus scent and I love that for a creamy cleanser it doesn’t leave a residue. Overall for me this feels most like a spring to fall cleanser that gives some oil control. It’s really nice when you’ve had a day that you need some degriming on. Oily skin will love this as well as combo. I have dry skin and rosacea and I can use it fine, but as it’s a little more detox style so I tend to save it for summer months or times when I really want that extra cleanse. It does not strip or dry my skin. Though I would not call it ultra hydrating either, which is why I use it in warmer months. I live in South Texas it’s great here for the warmer months. They now have one mist instead of four. The Essential Mist had been on my wishlist since their revamp. Think prebitoics, tremella mushroom, ginseng, schisandra berries, radix ophiopogonis, white tea, licorice, skullcap, lotus leaf, angelica, glycerin plus rose and helichrysum distillate. It smells faintly like rose but not overpowering and I love the heavy duty frosted glass bottle with sea green label. It’s nice. Details per YINA:

Next let’s move into the oils. There are four oils. I originally tried all four as samples when they were four seasons. They’re been renamed but the main ingredients should be similar or the same from my understanding. I picked two oils: Regenerate and Nourish.

Regenerate Botanical Serum is a facial oil with centella, reishi, mulberry, chrysanthemum, Solomon’s seal and goji berries plus camellia, safflower, pomegranate and raspberry oils. It does have essential oils like petigran, manuka and sandalwood. Honestly this smells light and just a really nice fresh, herbal scent. Nothing too strong at all. I love it. It’s become a nice facial oil I really enjoy. It’s a little more on the nourishing end so I would slate it as a night or winter oil. If you have dry skin you might be able to use it for days but I really like it at night. The scent is so calming. Details per YINA:

Nourish Botanical Serum is the bright red facial oil. Of course I picked to try it based on the color. It’s stunning. This facial oil is adaptogen rich with rhodiola, bakuchiol, angelica, asian knotweed and gromwell root plus camellia, safflower and blackberry seed oils. It has essential oils vetiver, ho wood, black spruce, frankincense, agarwood and myrrh. This facial oil has a very deep, earthy, woody scent. I like it, but more as a perfume than on my face. I wanted to really like this one but it wasn’t really suitable to my rosacea skin. I loved the scent don’t get me wrong, but something about it was just not working on my face. Would love this as a roll on scent though. I found myself reaching for Regenerate constantly and hardly ever this one. The texture of this one is lighter than Regenerate though. I wouldn’t call it light but maybe light medium. Details per YINA:

I love how they changed the facial oil bottles. They’re now short and squatty I love it. Let’s move onto the last item–the Divine Bio-Cellulose Mask. I am not a huge masking fan by any stretch. However, I do actually like a hydro-gel or bio-cellulose sheet mask. I might use an acid mask on occasion but it’s like once a month if that. There’s something cooling and refreshing about a bio-cellulose mask. I get their a waste of packaging and expensive, but they’re soothing, refreshing and cooling to my skin. I do think YINA hands down makes one of the best bio-cellulose masks on the market. Think soothing, adaptogenic herbs, no essential oils or fragrance beyond natural ingredients. You can use the serum to glide your NuFace across right after. I think the mask is plumping, hydrating and soothing and it actually fits my face well. I can’t say that for more than 80% of sheet masks. Details per YINA:

Inspired by the ancient wisdom of Chinese Medicine and created with modern alchemy, this bio-cellulose mask is formulated with east Asian medicinal herbs and skin-plumping peptides to enhance your skin’s self-renewal.

Each sheet goes through 21-days of fermentation and is infused with Ginseng, Centella, Licorice, and Evening Primrose to stimulate your skin’s natural process of rejuvenation.  Get a dewy, luminous, hydrated, and rejuvenated complexion in 15 minutes.

East Asian Medicinal Herbs

  • Ginseng (人参)- adaptogen, strengthening, brightening
  • Centella(积雪草) – adaptogen, repairative, promotes elasticity
  • Jobs Tears(薏苡仁) – soothing, evens out skin tone

Ingredients

Aqua, 1,3 Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Caprylyl Glycol, Pentapeptide-18, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium Levulinate, Sodium Anisate, Allantoin, Panax ginseng (Ginseng Root) Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola) Extract, Hydrolyzed Rice Extract, Evening Primrose Oil, Zingiber officinale (Ginger Root) Extract, Zizyphus jujuba (Jujube Fruit) Extract, Glycyrrhiza glabra (Licorice Root) Extract, Eugenia caryophyllus (Clove Flower) Extract, Prunus mume (Plum Fruit) Extract, Ligusticum striatum (Chuan Xiong) Extract, Angelica acutiloba (Angelica Root) Extract, Phaseolus radiatus (Mung Bean) Extract, Coix lacryma-jobi (Job’s Tears) Extract, Bletilla striata (Hyacinth Orchid Root) Extract, Trichosanthes kirilowii (Chinese Cucumber Root) Extract, Cimicifuga racemosa (Black Cohosh Root) Extract, Paeonia albiflora (White Peony Root) Extract, Rubus coreanus (Black Raspberry) Extract, Pogostemon cablin (Geranium Leaf) Extract, Ginkgo biloba (Ginkgo Leaf) Extract, Lycium barbarum (Goji Berry) Extract, Erythritol, Hibiscus sabdariffa (Roselle Fruit) Extract, Hydrolyzed Pearl, Whey Protein, Chenopodium quinoa (Quinoa Seed) Extract.

Overall my favorites are the mist, Regenerate facial oil, Divine Bio-Cellulose Mask and Bioadaptive Cleanser (in the summer). The facial oils are different formula wise, I researched some old reviews and inci lists and they’re definitely different now. I feel like I need to try the other two oils now (Clarify & Fortify). Since they’re so different. So maybe next round I can try those two. If you like green beauty and the whole ritualistic experience of skincare you’ll like YINA. It has the sensorial aspects well done.
