Zelens: Rebrand & Overall Round Up Thoughts

British brand Zelens was one of my first major brand addictions. They recently rebranded or revamped their packaging and changed some formulations. This includes some formula tweaks, some discontinuations as well as some new products. This revamping has shed some more light on them as a brand plus it's been years since I've really done a blog post on them so I thought I would talk about the few things that I've tried from the revamp as well as kind of just go over all the products again as a round up. Prior to the recent rebranding I had pretty much tried about 99% of their products. I love the recent rebranding of their packaging. So sleek and minimal but still like them. 

Let's start with the new ones I grabbed with the new packaging/revamp. PHA+ Resurfacing Facial Pads—I tried the old version (review HERE) and I do prefer this new version to the old one. The new formula is similar at core (PHA, AHA, BHA) but way better. They added glycerin, shiso, niacinamide, yeast ferment filtrate & almond esters, removed the alcohol & fragrance plus added enzymes. This formula is way more tolerable for me than the old one. Not the cheapest exfoliating pads ever, definitely a luxury. The max I can use these still is once a week. This one gets a thumbs up for the reformulation. Edit: Looks like this has been discontinued for a non pad form.

Shiso Balm—Formerly Z Pure (review HERE) this is a lightweight gel oil balm. It will flawlessly remove all makeup and emulsifies so easy, no residue leftover. Great for mornings or nights. This has the same fatty acid/glycerin base (fractionated coconut oil, olive oil, perilla  for shiso) and uses a sugar emulsifier. They did add yeast ferment filtrate to this one as well and removed all the fragrance and essential oils. It’s funny cause for one like myself who’s normally more against fragrance I have to say I oddly miss it. In general the Zelens scent is this light spa like fresh scent and it never bothered me, plus it was actually really nice. I understand brands move to become fragrance free due to consumer demand. I still like the cleanser, it’s a fantastic texture and it’ll work for everyone now—but a hint of the pleasure is gone from it is the best way to say it. This is bottle three for me. I have actually not tried their foam cleanser ever, I would some day.

Emulsion D—A new addition to the line. This is a lightweight cream added to expand their Vitamin D concept into a full line now. It’s got provitamin D3, phytosterols and biomimetic vegetable lipids plus prebiotics and shiso (common in all Zelens). It’s nice. Lightweight. No fragrance. I think combo to oily skin will love this as a soothing, barrier repair moisturizer and dry skin might get away with it in the summer on days, but not a night heavy cream by any means, think light. I actually prefer 3t Complex to this one. 3t Complex is a holy grail. Think thick, glossy cream that's uber nourishing, anti-aging and my favorite product they make. Per the brand it has not been changed minus the loss of fragrance--the texture has changed a little. It's a bit less creamy and has a more thick, glossy texture. It has one of my favs ursolic acid plus a regenerative botanical blend, algae, fatty acids (no essential oils), silanols, rice power, guggul (tree resin to increase lipid storage in cells). This is fantastic at moisturization, smoothing the skin, reducing fine lines, it's just really a brilliant moisturizer. Original review HERE. I use this at night. Two layers is great for dry skin. Slap an occlusive on top if you need it. Pair it with a facial oil or a balm if you need more lipids. It's more that glossy cream style. Oily skin would probably like Emulsion D better but this is the anti-aging power house moisturizer and one of their best sellers/most well known products.

Triple Action Eye Cream—Their eye cream is also infamous. I heard the texture has changed for this and it looks like the ingredient list is different so should be a revamp. I have not tried the new one. I used to love it as a makeup base as it has a silicone feel to it, but I think it’s more creamy now. Looks like the peptide blend changed a little bit, they added hesperidin, diglucosyl gallic acid, EGCG, vitamin C and changed the whole lipid/moisturizing profile for the better it looks. It's also now fragrance free. I went through multiple jars of the old one (review HERE). The new version sounds fabulous. Peptide Complex— This replaced Stem Complex. I loved Stem Complex. Great for drier skin. It used to be a more moisturizing hefty version of 3t Complex. This has now been revamped into Peptide Complex. It looks like they changed it up quite a bit--different and more peptides, more skin loving moisturizing molecules, a marine complex and this sounds interesting—Ornithine (amino acid encapsulated in ionosomes, restores fatty tissue volume and exhibits a lipofilling-like effect). Old review HERE. Honestly I thought this cream was overpriced when I wrote that post, plus it was too heavy for me back then. Once I got dry skin as I tried this again and I really loved the old version. They've managed to reduce the price as well by almost $100 which is worthy of noting. I have tried this now, it's lighter than 3t Complex now which isn't what I expected based in the old creams. Peptide Complex is more lipid rich than 3t Complex, but 3t Complex got the old Stem Complex texture. I'm not unhappy about that. I'll just stick with 3t Complex now--plus it's cheaper. Peptide Complex makes a nice day cream. It's heavier that the Emulsion D so it could be a night cream for non-dry skinned peeps.

Youth Intelligence (formerly Youth Concentrate) was my favorite of the serums (review HERE). It was my most repurchased serum from them. It looks like some of the core is the same but no longer has the encapsulated retinol. I'll have to try the new one now as it sounds like a total revamp of their big anti-aging serum, plus they reduced the cost which is nice. Lumino replaced Z Luminous (review HERE). This looks totally revamped and now has diglucosyl gallic acid, potassium azeloyl diglycinate, vitamin C, aminoethylphosphinic acid, hesperidin & Nonapeptide-1 so it looks like they really did amp up the brightening ingredients so I shall be adding the new one to my wish list as well. It sounds like a great revision. They discontinued Intense Defense and Tea Shot replaced it. Total revamp or new product. It's their non-vitamin C antioxidant serum. Tea Shot is on my list for sure as I'm all about the vitamin C free antioxidants right now. Instant Recharge is a new product. This is an AHA wash off mask in that glycerin style base (aka OSKIA or others). It has lactic acid and PHA which sounds fantastic. Added to my wish list as well.

Melatonin B12 replaced Z Melatonin a night serum that launched shortly before the revamp. I have the old one in my closet to pull out next and use. So there's no review on that one yet. It's supposed to help with repair and renewal in the skin. It's got multiple hydrators. It's a really interesting serum and concept and if there's one thing Zelens does well it's really cutting edge cool formulations (Dr. Lens the founder is a practicing plastic and reconstructive surgeon in the UK). I guess I'll have to try the new one after getting on with the old one. Add it to the list. I believe Power A and Power D are the same. Review HERE and HERE. They have the same dry oil base, one is retinoids and one is calming and soothing. I like Power D more as I'm just not a big retinoid in oil fan. Power B is new and is a serum for clarifying, not on my wish list as I don't really need that style product anymore. Power C went from oil to serum style. Vitamin C derivative serum. I'm kind of over vitamin C right now as an antioxidant serum and Tea Shot is way more interesting to me. I think if you like vitamin C derivatives Zelens would be good as they always do a good job. But yeah not on my wish list. Power E is new. Looks like a creamy vitamin E based antioxidants serum. Again I think Tea Shot looks more interesting for me so I'll be skipping trying it.

Z Balance became Microbiota P3. It looks revamped form the old one in a good way. I liked the old one a lot anyway so it's definitely on my wish list. Review of old one HERE. Nothing like pre/post/probiotics, amino acids and humectants. Once I work through a few mists I'll be trying the new version. Provitamin D3 mist is part of the vitamin D line and replaced Provitamin D mist. I tried the old one and honestly just forgot to review it. It's a soothing hydrating mist. They most definitely revamped this one adding amino acids and more hydrators. I'll throw in on the wish list as well. I liked the old Z Balance more than Provitamin D (mist was finer and I like prebiotics) but I'll have to try both again for new thoughts. Z-22 Facial Oil stayed the same as far as I know. It was one of my first facial oil purchases in 2014. It does have essential oils and is a more moisturizing oil, I ended up gravitating towards Power D after it's creation, though Z-22 is a cult classic for sure. They also managed to bring down the price which is worth noting.

Hyaluron Intense replaced Z Hyaluron. It was a new launch like the Melatonin serum right before the revamp. It's really a clever little hydrating serum. I tried Z Hyaluron which has three weights of encapsulated HA, exopolysaccharides, phospholipids, glycosphingolipids, beta glucan, glycerin, alginic acid, bioflavenoids and flavenoids. It’s got a lot of extra hydrators beyond just HA. It’s also meant to help target the enzymes that degrade hyaluronic acid and collagen. This new one may be slightly revamped. I'm sure I'll grab it again one day. If you like unique hydrating serum this was one of them. That's it for the new or similar stuff, let's move onto the discontinued items.

They discontinued one of my all time favs Z Matrix. This is an energizing hefty weight gel cream. I’m quite sad about this loss. It was fantastic. Actually one of my most repurchased besides 3t Complex. I hope they bring something similar back like it, review HERE. I did grab the new gel cream Aqua Shiso. It's really thin textured. Not at all like the thick version I loved before. It is way cheaper now. It's almost serum like, could probably be in a pump versus a jar. It has glycerin, shiso extract, hydrating natural sugars, glycosaminoglycans, sweet almond esters (not oil it's different) and Aquaxyl. This will be great for anyone who needs a light, light gel cream. It's not sticky.

They also got rid of Hydro-Shiso Balancing Moisturizer which was also one of my all time favs. I liked the glossy bouncy moisturizer for days. I liked it more than Emulsion D, it was glossy and such a lush texture. Review HERE. One of my all time favorite foundations was Youth Glow which also bit the bullet. I have been using that foundation for almost eight years. Review HERE. I asked if the color collection was coming back in May but I have no response from the brand yet. There’s no more makeup besides the lip balms. I wasn't a huge fan of the lip oil or balm. The lip oils always leave my dry lips dry and the color changing tint I didn't enjoy of the balm. Though I loved the actual formula, I just want non-color changing. I did like their lipstick it was a comfort matte that was not drying.

The Daily Defense SPF is gone. Being reformulated. That will be exciting to see. The old one was a chemical formula in a rich creamy base. Very dry skin friendly. That's one I'll be really excited to see the revamp of. The body oil sunscreen bit the bullet too which was OK with me. Z Recovery also was discontinued. I never got to retry that one. Tried it when I was pregnant and oddly it turned my face bright red. Guess I won't get the chance now. Their makeup primers were nice, I know I have a few ask me now and then where to get the primers from but they're gone. The new sunscreen is now out. They made three instead of one. One Mineral SPF 30, a chemical SPF 30 and a chemical Daily Defense SPF 50 which is on my wishlist. 

Zelens is most definitely one of my favorite brands. I know I haven't been using them a lot the last three years or so. It's because I already went through everything they made and was ready to see what was out there for a little it. Plus it's hard to buy new stuff when you're getting a ton of stuff to test in PR. It pushed them a bit on the backburner so to speak. The backburner never got turned off. Zelens is one you keep on the radar because they are good. Zelens is a little high end pricey, but not too bad compared to some. What I love about them is their cutting edge technology and formulas, plus their stuff works. I may not use every item they make but a good majority works well for me. Think unique, cutting edge technology, effective. That's what I think of when I think of Zelens. Maybe the revamp was my kick in the butt to get back into them. For the record I've been reviewing them since 2014, I have purchased 98% on my own. I received three oils once and a sunscreen in PR four years ago. All you see that I reviewed, I've purchased on my own because I really do love the brand. And they're not cheap, so I had to have loved it. Plus I had a lot of repurchases.

So hold me accountable in the next two years to try: Tea Shot, Hyaluron Intense, Melatonin B12, Instant Recharge, Provitamin D3, Microbiota P3, Lumino, Youth Intelligence, Peptide Complex, Triple Action Eye Cream & 3t Complex. I have a home renovation to so this year so likely it will be next year or one here or there. I want to compare the old to the new and try the newbies.
