Joanna Vargas skincare has been on my wish list to try for a while. I have been playing with two items the Super Nova Serum & Bright Eye Firming Mask. Joanna Vargas has a nature meets technology approach to skincare. She was a facialist in NYC spas and a top dermatologist’s office before coming out on her own.
Super Nova Serum is the star product from the line. Details per Joanna Vargas:
A multidimensional Retinol serum that visibly improves firmness, enhances clarity, and restores youthful vitality. Supernova Serum is a powerful yet skin-soothing treatment for rapid cell turnover to quickly reveal younger looking skin. Healing ingredients such as Vitamin A, Fatty Acids, and Chamomile will help soothe and condition on contact. It can also help reverse skin glycation due to alcohol consumption and sugar, which accelerates the aging process. This is the most effective treatment in the Joanna Vargas high-performance skin care collection to quickly transform the skin to achieve a youthful, lasting glow.
Water (Aqua), Malus Domestica (Apple) Fruit Cell Culture Extract, Leucojum Aestivum Bulb Extract, Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Glyceryl Limoleate, Retinyl Palmitate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phospahate, Caprylyl Glycol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Manihot Esculenta (Tapioca) Starch, Retinol, Salicylic Acid, Darutoside, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria)
This serum comes packaged in a white glass bottle. It has a stout bottle with a cool silver top. The aesthetic and packaging overall has a modern luxe feel. I really like it. I love black and white minimalist. The dispenser is a pump which is perfect. The serum has a light fluid serum texture which is much appreciated. I’m not into the thicker, creamy retinol serums. This serum has a pleasant light floral and fruity scent. I love it. The serum is hydrating, layers well and sinks in quickly.
Super Nova Serum has apple fruit cell culture extract (helps regenerate the skin), Summer snowflake extract (brightens skin), Persian silk tree extract (antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, can detox due to effects against glycation), Palmitoyl Oligopeptide & Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 (peptides for stimulating collagen production), Pseudoalteromonas Ferment Extract (protein derivative with ability to regenerate and protect skin by retaining, heal wounds, increase collagen and elastin production, and improve hydration), vitamin E (antioxidant), Retinyl Palmitate (weak form of vitamin A), Sodium Ascorbyl Phospahate (vitamin C derivative to brighten and help increase collagen production), retinol (gold standard for anti-aging to help with wrinkles, fine lines, texture and pigmentation plus collagen production), Darutoside (plant with anti-inflammatory and healing effects) & chamomile (soothing, anti-inflammatory).
This is a nice twist on a retinol serum by combining an anti-aging serum with retinol. It has a pleasant all natural scent (no essential oils or fragrance), great texture that’s easy to work with, plus you have the gold standard king of anti-aging retinol combined with antioxidants & vitamins, anti-inflammatory & regenerative extracts and peptides for a powerful night serum. The retinol is non-irritating yet effective. I was able to use it everyday with no side effects. My skin was healthy and just glowed while using this product. It did help with my texture and fine lines from the retinol.
I was pretty sad when the bottle was empty. It is a pricey product so I really wanted to test it good for you. I used the entire bottle and have now been off of it for two weeks. I find that’s truly the best way to test a product like this. Sometimes it’s hard to see how much of an effect it has on your skin while using it. When you stop using it and notice the difference that’s when you know if it had a positive effect or not. My skin feels just a bit less radiant and not quite as glowing and smooth since I ran out two weeks ago. So I would say yes this serum is effective. Plus it really has a great texture and scent. I put this up there with a few of my other favorite retinol serums (Renee Rouleau & Zelens) and would purchase it.
