SkinBetter Science Even Tone Correcting Serum & Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment

I’ve talked about SkinBetter Science before. They’re a medical grade skincare brand sold only by professionals (physician or a pros office). There’s a whole bunch of talk about ‘medical grade’ being a marketing term only. Which is true for the most part. There’s no FDA regulations that make a brand medical grade. Prescription skincare is the only skincare that’s FDA regulated. The ingredients in medical grade skincare are regulated like any ingredients used by any brand. A good majority of medical grade brands have independent clinical studies on their products, but in all honesty some mass market brands have studies as well (Zelens, Perricone) so does that really make a brand medical grade? Plus there are some terrible studies by all genres of skincare. Yet very rarely does a brand link you to their actual study. You see the photos and numbers but not the actual study. It always irks me a little but I understand a vast majority of people won’t understand the study which is probably why it’s not linked.

There are medical grade brands that have patented ingredients or access to certain ingredients you may not see in a more mass market brand. Some of the patents are actually really stellar ingredients. So that’s a nice bonus for the medical grade genre. All that being said there are some medical grade brands that do it quite a bit better than mass market brands or even other medical grade brands, and some do not. SkinBetter Science is one medical grade brand that does it better. I have always found their products to be really effective. Thy tend to be well executed and thought out plus their formulas are high quality and they work. So whether or not you get into marketing terms or not SkinBetter Science does stand out in the world of medical grade skincare. They also have a few good patented ingredients/compounds.

Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment is their newest moisturizer. Details per SkinBetter:

Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment is a high-performance, triple-action formula that helps to hydrate a compromised barrier and bring moisture back to the skin.

Benefits:

  • Bringing moisture and hydration balance back to the skin.
  • Support healthier-looking skin, resulting in improved appearance of radiance, suppleness and smoothness.
  • Visible improvement in the look of fine lines, wrinkles and skin dryness.

Ingredients

Aqua/Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Stearate, Cholesterol, Glycerin, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Lactate, Polyglyceryl-6 Palmitate/Succinate, Sodium PCA, Squalane, lsocetyl Stearoyl Stearate, Ethyl Macadamiate, N-Capryloyl Lysine, Jojoba Esters, Carnitine, Dimethicone, Sodium Hyaluronate, Urea, Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Phosphate, Salicornia Herbacea Extract, Ceramide EOP, Ceramide NP, Linoleic Acid, Linolenic Acid, Carnosine, Caffeine, Salicylic Acid, Tocopherol, Pullulan, Caprylyl Methicone, Sclerotium Gum, Xanthan Gum, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Triethyl Citrate, Silica, Lecithin, Phytic Acid, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Triacetin, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Lactic Acid.

This is a nice light cream/heavy lotion moisturizer. It’s fragrance free and in an airless pump so big pluses there. This is their heaviest moisturizer out of the three. It’s not really that heavy though like I said think heavy lotion or light cream. This moisturizer is just a really nice all around moisturizer. It’s not a fancy bells and whistles one but it will keep your skin happy and barrier intact. It’s got coconut fatty acids, cholesterol, glycerin, urea, squalane, jojoba esters, dimethicone, sodium hyaluronate, ceramides & vitamin E.

I love when a moisturizer hits all the boxes, cholesterol, ceramides, fatty acids, hyaluronic acid, natural moisturizing factors like urea and lactic acid plus occlusives like dimethicone to keep the moisture in. This moisturizer can be used anytime really. It doesn’t have anything in it to have to watch what you apply it with or anything. It’s just a well rounded moisturizer that will replenish and support your skins barrier leaving healthy, happy moisturized skin. It’s not heavy so it won’t leave you feeling too greasy or heavy like some moisturizers can do. While I enjoy this one a lot it’s a little pricey for what it is. There are other barrier moisturizers that do a good job as well but are cheaper. I think this one is a nice quality but I’d rather splurge on the brands treatments more than this.

Even Tone Correcting Serum is a pigmentation fighting serum. Details per SkinBetter:

Even Tone Correcting Serum, featuring the patented b.r.y.t. complex by skinbetter is a ground-breaking, non-hydroquinone, non-retinol formula that delivers a visibly dramatic reduction in the appearance of hyperpigmentation.

Benefits:

  • Breaks up the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
  • Brightens the appearance of skin without the use of hydroquinone.
  • Improves the appearance of yellowing that often accompanies the look of hyperpigmentation in certain skin types.

Ingredients

Aqua/Water, C13-15 Alkane, Propanediol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Linoleic Acid, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Alpha-Arbutin, Arginine PCA, Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, Bisabolol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Acetyl Glycyl Beta-Alanine, Hexylresorcinol, Terminalia Ferdinandiana Fruit Extract, Artemisia Capillaris Flower Extract, Diglucosyl Gallic Acid, Pancratium Maritimum Extract, Ceramide NG, Linolenic Acid, Beta-Glucan, Algin, Tocopherol, Butylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, Sodium Phytate, Sodium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic Acid, Sorbic Acid, Citric Acid.

This brightening/pigmentation serum has a light creamy serum texture. It’s not super light but it’s not heavy either. I found it sinks in well and has no issues layering with other skincare. This serum has some basic hydrating ingredients like coconut fatty acids, linoleic/linolenic acids, glycerin, dimethicone, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid, ceramides and beta-glucan. So it does add a nice hydrating layer. This does have kakadu plum which is an antioxidant and rich in natural vitamin C. This is a pigmentation serum that’s free of retinol though you can use this with retinol, vitamin C, acids & SPF for a multi-focal approach to pigmentation. When fighting pigmentation it’s key to attack it from all angles which includes retinol, acids, vitamin C and SPF. Using only one doesn’t really give you best results on your pigmentation problem. Remember you want to block the enzyme tyrosinase which in short is a key player in causing pigmentation.

This serum has a multitude of pigmentation fighters such as Alpha-Arbutin (naturally derived, our bodies break down arbutin into glucose and hydroquinone which in turn blocks tyrosinase activity and reduces the skin’s melanin production, great for spots), Acetyl Glycyl Beta-Alanine (lightening peptide that inhibits melanin generating enzymes like tyrosinase & also hinders the transport of the pigment to the upper layers), Artemisia Capillaris Flower Extract (prevention of melanin transfer between melanocytes and epidermal cells), Diglucosyl Gallic Acid (patented, skin-brightening, anti-inflammatory and photo protectant, partially converted into a natural inhibitor of the melanin-producing enzyme tyrosinase) & Hexylresorcinol (an antiseptic/anesthetic found recently to have the ability to treat hyperpigmentation, supposedly .5% Hexylresorcinol concentration has proven to be just as effective as 2% concentration of Hydroquinone with fewer side effects).

So does it work? I have found very few products that actually help reduce my melasma and sun damage to a noticeable degree. This is one of them. By the end of the bottle I had visible reduction in melasma and brown spots from previous sun damage. I used it in the summer and it actually not only corrected past issues but it also helped to keep new summer pigmentation from forming which was a first for me. I always get this brown spot every summer on my forehead in the same spot and I did not get it while using this during the summer. So that was impressive. This was by far the best and most effective acid & retinol free lightening/brightening serum I’ve used to date. Very few things actually help my melasma that aren’t retinol or acids. I would easily purchase this again and it has been one of my favorite SkinBetter products I’ve tried. I get them from Harben Houses’s physician cousin Beleza Medspa.

  1. Hi, can I ask how you layer this on your face? Or what other products you use and when?

    Thank you so much!

    1. I used it at night almost last. I used it with retinol, acids and peptides depending on my current routine. It’s creamy weight so I used it more to the end.

    2. I use the alto defense serum first then the even tone correcting serum, InterFuse treatment cream for face and neck then the trio rebalancing moisturizer. I do feel like my forehead gets greasy though . Can’t figure out what one though. Hope this info helped you!

  2. Hi, do you know if it’s safe to use while pregnant since it’s non hydroquinone, non-retinol? Thank you so much!

  3. So you like this one more than Niod re:pigment ? Which others have you tried that are non retinol non hq if you don’t mind sharing :)?

    1. Hey, I like them both, different textures. It’s been a while since I had NIOD RE:Pigment and I just got it again so I’m going to use both again. I also just grabbed the Sachi Skin one which looks promising. I’d love to try SkinMedica Lytera as well. I tried a few cheap Tranexamic acid ones and the Naturium azelaic acid right now. So far I like this one and NIOD the most so far

  4. HI,
Would you like to recommend a moisturizer which is similar with Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment from Skin-better but it’s cheaper than it?
