TATCHA The Silk Peony, Violet-C Brightening Serum & The Silk Cream

I have three items I’ve been playing with from TATCHA lately. I couldn’t resist the newly launched The Silk Peony eye cream. The lid of this is just absolutely stunning. It has a peony sculpted under the see through layer of sparkling plastic. Quite impressive. Details per TATCHA:

An anti-aging eye cream that melts to release a double shield of hydration with line-smoothing liquid silk and moisture-locking Japanese White Peony for youthful, radiant eyes.

Benefits:

Unique melting texture smooths and blurs

  • Cushiony balm designed for comfort around the delicate eye area melts upon application to release a powerful moisturizing elixir with liquid silk.
  • Blurs the look of fine lines and wrinkles, helping skin resemble the soft, smooth, natural radiance of pure silk.
  • Ideal for prepping the eye area before makeup application.

The Silk Cream is one of the brands bestsellers. Details per TATCHA:

This moisturizer is a rich yet weightless gel cream that gives skin the look and feel of pure silk—soft, smooth and lustrous.

Benefits:

  • Richly hydrates A new complete liquid silk protein, which parallels the amino acid structure of human skin, forms a whisper light, moisture-binding veil on the skin.
  • Imparts a youthful radiance Beneath the silk, our Hadasei-3™ complex, a trinity of anti-aging Japanese superfoods, restores a healthy-looking glow.
  • Gives the look of firmer skin New Akoya Pearl extract helps to protect skin from the yellowing or browning that comes with age for more supple skin.

Key Ingredients:

  • Uji Green Tea Prized throughout Japan as the purest, finest source of Green Tea, this powerful antioxidant-rich botanical from Kyoto is known to detoxify and help prevent signs of premature aging.
  • Okinawa Mozuku Algae This sea treasure from Japan’s tropical islands is rich in polysaccharides, essential for skin water retention and renewal.
  • Akita Rice This rice is known as the finest rice in Japan for its superior taste and quality. It is also a nourishing moisturizer, rich in essential proteins.

I grabbed this during the last Sephora sale because one I was curious as I’ve seen it so much and two I thought it was the the same as the supple rich version I had been testing (now discontinued I think). The Silk Cream has a silky super light gel cream texture. It’s one of the lightest I’ve seen. It’s so easy to layer, no pilling at all. This sinks right in. It has no silicone or alcohol and a nice inci list. You’ve got fermented green tea/algae/rice extract, glycerin, squalane, peony, silk extract, ginseng & royal jelly.

This is a nice hydrating layer but it also has such a light and non-greasy feel. It’s only got one oil in it-soothing rice germ. The packaging of TATCHA’s creams is always nice. They have this gold loop system at the top with a gold spoon for dispensing. The gold spoon stays attached to the lid for easy access. This is not a cheap product. I got mine on sale but it was still pricey. As a light hydrating gel it’s great. Silk amino acids come from the silk protein who’s structure is similar to a collagen protein. Silk amino acids help increase elasticity, hydrate, tighten & smooth. There’s something about silk amino acids when you use them.

I like the overall combination of antioxidants, amino acids and lightweight texture. It hydrates without being heavy at all. It’s like a whisper light hydrating layer. It gives my skin a nice hydrating firm feel. Besides the essence I think this became one of my other all time TATCHA favorites.

Violet-C Brightening Serum has the most stunning purple bottle. This is a 20% vitamin C & 10% AHA brightening serum. Details per Sephora:

A 20 percent vitamin C and 10 percent AHA serum with pure ingredients and gentle strength that helps soften, smooth, and brighten for more radiant, even-toned skin.

Key Ingredients:

  • Unique 20% Vitamin C Blend A fast-acting, moisturizing vitamin C derivative absorbs quickly into skin to fight aging from daily free radical assault; helps support surface cell turnover for firmer looking skin while also improving moisture levels; remains in skin longer, helping to protect skin from oxidation and reduce UV damage for brighter skin over time.
  • Mild Fruit AHAs 10% Gentle yet effective acids remove debris and the buildup of dead skin cells for smooth, radiant skin; derived from seven fruits (apple, grapefruit, orange, lemon, lime, hawthorn, and jujube).
  • Japanese Angelica Root Extract An edible plant prized for centuries in herbal medicine for its recovery benefits, it helps reduce the appearance of dark spots, discoloration and post-acne scarring from the source; helps to diffuse accumulated excess melanin, a cause of hyperpigmentation, resulting in visibly more even skin tone.

This serum has 20% vitamin C derivatives and 10% naturally found fruit AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids). It has a nice hydrating light serum texture with a mild citrus scent. Vitamin C derivatives never work as well for me as ascorbic acid. They are great for sensitive skin (less irritation) and for anyone who can’t handle ascorbic acid. Plus they help stimulate collagen production. Natural fruit acids are not as irritating as a typical 10% glycolic acid serum. So in theory this should be good for anyone who has a hard time with irritating products as there should be less side effects.

Now citrus extracts can be irritating for sensitive skin so you just have to see if it works for you or not. I found this gentle and non-irritating for me. I love the bottle, it’s stunning. The texture is nice. It just didn’t do a huge amount for me. I’ve heard some absolutely love this serum while others have said the same thing I do. So I think it just depends on you and your skin.
