FENTY BEAUTY-Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer, Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick & Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

This review for FENTY BEAUTY is way overdue. I know it’s probably been killed in reviews to death by now, but I might as well throw my two cents in as well. I grabbed the primer, one shimmer stick and a few deluxe samples of the foundations right after the line launched. All details from Sephora.

Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer A shine-stopping, pore-diffusing primer that smooths the way for better foundation application and longer wear with an instant retouch effect.

Nothing is sexier than touch-worthy skin. Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer is the first step to getting there. Paired with Pro Filt’r Foundation, this oil-free primer smooths away the look of pores, visibly evens skin tone and texture, and instantly absorbs shine without feeling dry or chalky. That means smoother foundation application and longer makeup wear.

Unlike a basic mattifying primer, Pro Filt’r’s cushiony, touch-me-now texture mattifies skin with the lightest possible feel for a full-on sensorial experience. The universal invisipink™ formula creates a filter-like blurring effect and melts instantly into all skin tones without a trace. Pro Filt’r works all day to help makeup last longer, and feel lightweight and comfortable, so you don’t have to worry about your skin—and you’ll be ready for anything.

For Rihanna, creating the perfect soft matte base is the most important part of any look—and the first step to the Fenty Face, her real-life method for killer radiance. “I wanted this primer to feel soft and moisturizing at the same time, as well as do the job of keeping makeup on.”—Rihanna, Brand Founder

I love the FENTY packaging. It’s slightly graphic with the shape and a bit feminine with the pink. It’s also minimalist and clean. The packaging overall is my favorite part of FENTY BEAUTY. FENTY BEAUTY is also reasonably riced and designed for a huge number of skin tones, another reason it’s been so popular.

The primer is housed in a frosted glass bottle with a pump. My favorite style. The primer has a light pink hue to it which will help brighten your complexion. This is a thicker creamy style primer that gives a satin finish to the skin. The semi-matte primer blurs pores priming the skin for makeup. I love that it’s not too matte, nor too dewy. It’s the perfect satin finish. It doesn’t feel heavy in the silicone department and never clogged my pores. This is my favorite item from the FENTY BEAUTY line.

“I like to look at these Shimmer Skinsticks like I look at my clothes in the closet. Am I doing fun? Am I doing alien? Am I doing weird? Am I doing sexy? Am I doing extra? Am I doing girl next door? You choose. The point is, there are so many and they’re so fun. You can just collect them, magnetize them, and use them as you please depending on your mood, your outfit, and where you’re going, the occasion.”— Rihanna, Brand Founder

Match Stix Shimmer Skinstick in Starstruck is described as an iced out pearl. It’s a cooler toned shimmery pearl champagne that’s paler on the skin than it looks in the photos. Starstruck is a little more frosty than I would like mainly because it’s quite pigmented. The formula is very dry and hard. It wasn’t my favorite formula for a highlighting stick. The shade is not unique either by any means.

I loved the packaging the most. The geometric shape and magnetic closure is stunning. I didn’t like the product that much. I prefer a slightly creamier product. The dry formula does have great longevity though. Sadly there was no other shade that worked well for my light medium skin tone either. They were all too gold, deep, cool or bright.

Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation A soft matte, long-wear foundation with buildable, medium-to-full coverage, in a boundary-breaking range of shades.

Finally—the ultimate photo filter in foundation form. Born in 40 boundary-breaking shades, Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this longwearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin—so you always look like you.

How did Fenty Beauty nail the ultimate shade lineup? Obsessive research to create the perfect range of shades for all, exclusive insights from the world’s top makeup artists, and through extensive testing for real life on real women.

Fenty Beauty figured out that it takes the right balance of tone and texture to make foundation work on every skin type. We obsessed over custom pigment levels to capture your truest tones with a soft matte finish that’s just right—not too matte and not too shiny. The result? A comfortable long-wear formula that lets skin look like skin. Made for all women to love.

“Foundation is one of those areas in the beauty industry that has a big void for women at extreme ends of the shade spectrum. There’s this middle ground that’s covered really, really well. But then if you’re very pale or if you’re very dark, there aren’t a lot of options. And so, I wanted to make sure that women of all skin tones were covered so they could be included in what I created.”—Rihanna, Brand Founder

The foundation is very matte. It’s long wearing for sure. It’s too heavy and matte for me, I prefer a slightly dewier or satin light to medium coverage foundation. I did like this one better than the Natasha Denona X foundation. The FENTY foundation is just a touch more lightweight and natural looking than the Natasha Denona.

It’s hard to get this foundation to look like you’re wearing nothing. It’s a matte full coverage foundation, you can’t make that look like nothing. That’s not it’s purpose. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, it’s just very matte and high coverage. There’s a really nice huge range of shades which is a plus. This is best applied with a beautyblender. If you like matte and heavy coverage foundations you probably will like this one as it’s lovely. It just wasn’t for me.

The secondary packaging for FENTY BEAUTY is also sunning. Very artistic and graphic. I look forward to see what else the brand will put out.
