SUQQU Nude Wear Liquid Foundation

By now you are all aware of my love for the SUQQU makeup line. The Japanese made brand always turns out quality products and their eyeshadows are top notch. They launched a new foundation earlier this spring and I’m really behind in reviewing it for you as I have had it for quite a while. The Nude Wear Liquid Foundation is the brands lightest textured foundation to date. Details per SUQQU:

A drop of luxury beautifying essence in a nourishing, serum-like texture. Loved & used by celebrity makeup artists for this year’s red carpet looks and London Fashion Week, the SUQQU NUDE WEAR LIQUID instantly uplifts the complexion with dewy glow that lasts all day.

It easily glides on and blends in to harmonise with the skin and create ‘the illusion of bare skin’ that is so fresh, clean and almost undetectable as if it were part of the skin. With an infusion of new “high reflection oils” technology, which collects natural lights & diffuses clear radiance, it instantly uplifts your complexion with a fresh glow that lasts all day.

It helps to beautify the skin from within as well as its appearance, with a rich concentrate of skincare ingredients, including “Light Complex” the same ingredients as in SUQQU Light Solution skincare series designed to boost radiance and brighten tone. It also contains four Japanese native natural extracts: from Olive Leaf, Angelica Keiskei Leaf, Alpina Speciosa Leaf and Okura. Anti-aging, moisturising oils like Evening Primrose Oil and Camellia Oil are also infused to protect the skin from dehydration.

This foundation has a very fluid texture. It gives a light to medium buildable coverage that has a natural satin finish. It has an oil feeling base much like Armani Maestro but with this one there’s no alcohol so it’s far less drying and doesn’t accentuate dry patches like Armani does. If you loved the texture of the Armani Maestro like I did but hated the alcohol then this is your best substitute. So this has an oil fluid base with suspended pigments. Then the oils kind of evaporate a bit once applied which leaves behind the pigments. It makes for a super lightweight foundation that still gives good coverage.

Nude Wear hydrates with the oils in a good way. It’s not too dewy, nor is it ever greasy feeling. It’s still a dewy foundation but not as much as some. You must shake this well before every use as the pigments separate from the base. This comes in a glass bottle with a dropper style applicator. This layers easily and you can build up coverage in certain areas. Granted you’ll only get medium coverage but it’s not designed to be a full coverage foundation. The longevity is OK. I get maybe 6 hours before there’s a bit of fading. You can powder it for a longer lasting effect.

If you like light coverage foundations you’ll like it. You might get some breakdown if you’re more oily but I would probably say this is best for the non-oily skin types. It’s really nice for normal to dry skin. I am combo in the summer and normal to dry in the winter and I can wear it year round. However those more oily types may not get away with this as much except in winter.

The shade range is terrible as always. There’s only 7 shades. It’s sheer so you have a lot of leeway with it. I always tend to be right in between shade 003 and 203 in SUQQU foundations. 003 is too light but the perfect neutral tone, 203 is the right depth but too pink orange for me. All the SUQQU foundation ranges tend to differ in the shades. None of them are really the same. I swatched below three types of SUQQU foundation in shades 003 & 203 and you can see the differences between the formulas. I find Frame Fix darker than usual with Extra Rich having the best shade options for a neutral skin tone. Nude Wear is a bit warm in general and none of them are really neutral feeling in tone. Overall Nude Wear 003 was my best match but I really could have worn either as it’s so sheer there wasn’t much difference.

This foundation is going to be perfect for anyone who likes sheer to medium coverage, a dewy satin finish with hydrating benefits. It’s not the easiest brand to find there are only so many options. As it’s a Japanese and UK only brand with no US retailers that makes Selfridges the best option. You can also find SUQQU at Harrods & Fenwicks in the UK or at Japanese custom buyer sites like Ichibankao & Everglow. Blogger Beautygypsy has a custom purchase site now. She’s US based and I haven’t used her site yet but as a friend I would recommend her. I try to buy from the UK SUQQU retailers as SUQQU in Japan retails for more than in the UK, oddly. I would love to see SUQQU expand it’s range with more neutral tones as well. It’s such a good quality line it’s just hard to find and acquire plus the shades are not for everyone.
